Recently dx w/ HSV1 thru blood antibody level of 44.70. Negative for HSV 2.
Is this an std?
Can I transmit it by kissing/oral sex?
Do I need to be on meds for it? If so, what meds are usually prescribed
Will I or my child need to take meds if I get pregnant? If so, usually during what stage of pregnancy?
IS it safe to have vaginal deliveries with HSV1
Can it change to HSV 2 of the mouth?
Can it cause HSV 2 of the Genital area?
What is the safest way to be able to kiss and have oral sex without it being transmitted or developing into HSV2?
Would you recommend follow up testing? If so which test?
Just fyi: this is oral form only per dr. And I have never had a break out or lesion
Just wondering why I haven’t gotten a response. It has been two days
when you keep posting, it keeps moving you question up in the queue.
Have you ever in your life had a cold sore on your lip or in your nostril? Most often HSV 1 is an oral infection but could be genital as well. If you have never had genital or oral lesions you cannot know if your infection is oral or genital.
If oral, you can give this to someone else through kissing or giving oral sex.
If you want to reduce the risk of infecting someone else, you can take daily antiviral medicine to reduce the risk of infecting someone else. But remember that about half the US population has HSV 1 so it is likely you will be with someone at some point who also has this infection.
Pregnancy is not an issue if this is oral
HSV 1 stays HSV 1 regardless of location
I don’t believe you need follow up testing, no
Terri
Thank you! So do you think I should do western blot? And no, I’ve never had any type of cold sore before
The Western blot would not be helpful here. You have a very strong antibody response to HSV one which you already know. Without ever having a cold sore in your past, we cannot know if your infection is oral or genital but if you get a lesion in either location, you should have it swab tested right away.
