Hi Terri!!
I have HSV (NEVER TESTED but I’ve gotten cold sores before)
I was recently at a work event and my colleague had a cold sore outbreak. At one point I drank out of what I thought was my glass but not sure. I’m doubting it but can’t be sure. Took about 7 sips of wine.
I’m now terrified it was his glass as we were next to each other.
If I did accidentally drink out of his glass and he has hsv 1 would my exposure to it trigger an outbreak of my own? Or not really? I’m wondering if exposure to his hsv 1 will reactivate my hsv 1. If that makes sense.
I haven’t had a cold sore in 20 years.
I have a baby and terrified ill expose her to an active outbreak because of all this!!
Thank you!
No, drinking out of his glass would not trigger a recurrence in you. Your immune system will handle your HSV in it’s own way, not something that happened externally like you describe. If you get a cold sore, just don’t kiss your baby with the cold sore. But if you get one, it’s not from this incident
