Hi Terri I have been doing tons and tons of research and I came across your site. I currently went to go do a panel test through an online source and the results show:
HSV 1 IGG TYPE SPECIFIC AB >5.00 H
HSV 2 IGG TYPE SPECIFIC AB 2.03 HValue ——<0.90 Interpretation: Negative
>1.10 Interpretation : PositiveI have shown no symptoms for either, but HSV 1 could be possibly through my family. HSV 2 I have no symptoms. I just started having sex with a new partner (protected) and she had stated she was clean and had tested 3 months ago negative. To give her peace of mind I went to go test myself without her asking me. Sure enough I am positive. A prior day to my testing we didn’t have sex with a condom. All others were protected. I had to tell her my results and now I am panicking because I feel if I go take another test its will be positive. So I am very interested in taking the Western Blot to confirm once and for all. What is your take on it? If my HSV 2 value was higher I think I would just accept it, but given that I fall within the area of a false positive, now I want to take the Western Blot.

My take is that you are definitely needing the western blot. Your index value means there is about a 60% chance this is a false positive. We can help you do that. Just call the clinic and set up a phone consultation with me, we’ll order your western blot to be drawn at a location near where you live or work, and we should have the results within two to three weeks. The cost is usually $250 for the consultation and test or $315 if you live in New York, Rhode Island, Florida, Maryland or Pennsylvania. If you live in one of those five states, we have set up a research study to look at the rate of false positives and the cost is a bit more. I do have time on my schedule Tuesday afternoon at this point for a phone consultation.

Terri, to add to my first post. Prior to my new relationship I had 3 sexual partners. 2 of which I called a couple days ago after my test and ask them if they were tested (these were less than a minute penetration) (due to performance anxiety). Both said they tested negative recently.. I consider both of these women responsible. The third encounter I used a condom. And prior to that I had not had sex in over 2 years. Does this change my chances or do I still fall within 60% chance of a false positive? Further, if I was a carrier would the index be a lot higher?
I’m so stressed out so I have done research and called different doctors and clinics and none seem to know about western blot. And it seems like you only know about it. So I have ordered the kit from the university. (Ordered it Friday of last week). And I’m definitely interested iin doing Western Blot. So since have ordered it I guess my next step is to call you. Do you have to reorder the kit again?

If you use the clinic to get your testing done, you do not need the kit and even if you have the kit, Quest labs that we use will provide their own “kit”.
Yes, I think your sexual history increases the likelihood that this is a false positive.

Hi Terri,
If I previously tested positive for HSV1 and Negative for HSV 2 and my sexual behavior is low risk would the chances of having HSV 2 be very low due to the fact that I already have HSV 1? I called your office today and look forward to speaking with you tomorrow regarding the Western Blot. I appreciate your knowledge on the subject (from the different questions I have read).

That’s hard to say really. We’ll talk today and try to sort this out further.
