My girlfriend has HSV-1 and had a cold sore on her nose (outside of lower nostril). She did not think she would transmit the virus through kissing because the sore was not on her mouth. Is this correct or would she be shedding in her mouth at the same time she had a sore on her nose? I kissed her during this timeframe. What would be my odds of getting HSV-1? Thanks for you web site and all your valuable info.
She is incorrect. People give off virus sometimes from multiple locations at the same time, particularly when there is an obvious sore present. But this also happens when there are no sores present at all.
I can’t give you an exact percentage because I don’t know if you might have been infected in the past or not. And we don’t have data about this kind of transmission. About half the US population already has this virus but 70% don’t know they have it.
