Hi Terri,
I have some questions regarding HSV-1 transmission.
Scenario 1: Let’s just say I was diagnosed with HSV-1 (oral herpes). Pretend I never had a oral outbreak in my life (up to date). Fast forward- I meet a man and he wants me to give him blowjobs. (Please break it down for me) how high of a chance do I have of passing HSV-1 to his genital area considering I never had an outbreak in my life around my mouth? **Also, please answer this same question but now the scenario changes to where I get 1-2 outbreaks a year.
Note: He does not have HSV-1 or HSV-2.
Scenario 2: I don’t have HSV-1 or HSV-2. I date a man who has HSV-1 (oral herpes). He rarely breaks out in a cold sore or never broke out in his life. Whatever his situation is- From kissing him on the lips/making out frequently, what are the chances of him passing oral herpes to my mouth? Obviously would never kiss him with a cold sore present.
Question: How well does antiviral therapy work for oral herpes?
These are all hypothetical scenarios. Currently I am HSV free. But I want to make sure I am safe or my partner is safe in the future.

Also, my mom had a outbreak on her lip. When she went to hug me, she lightly kissed my arm. What are chances of catching herpes 1 that way? I’m freaking out.

We don’t have any statistics on transmission of HSV 1 to someone else, either through kissing or through giving or receiving oral sex. Sorry. People who have symptoms with an HSV 1 infection likely shed more than those who don’t have symptoms. People with genital HSV 1 shed virus far less often than people with oral HSV 1.
The situation with your mom presents no risk of transmission. The skin of the arm is too thick for virus to penetrate and infect someone who kisses it with a cold sore.

Thanks Terry.
Also- I had a friend who has oral herpes (never had an outbreak) talk & spit got on my lip. What are the chances of me getting oral herpes that way?

Your friend spitting on your lip, while very weird behavior, is not a risk to acquire HSV.

Hi again!
Question 1: My mom had a cold sore on her lip for 2.5 weeks. She said it healed, I examined her. There is a red/pink mark (stain) on the area where the cold sore was present. Is she still contagious?
Question 2: After 2.5 weeks of the cold sore on my moms lip, she kissed/fast peck my fore head (where the red/pink mark/stain was present). Can
She transmit the virus that way to me? What are the chances?Question 3: Can you catch HSV from handshaking with people with sweaty hands? I washed my hands right away.
Question 4: Where can you not get the virus (to make things shorter)
Question 5: I shared a skinny thin straw with a friend. She never had a outbreak in her life. Can I catch it that way? It wasn’t direct sip to sip.

Also to add to the question above-
I have a handjob to a guy. He cummed on my back which leaked down to my anus/butt area and vagina. Can HSV2 get transmitted that way?

Very likely notQuestion 2: After 2.5 weeks of the cold sore on my moms lip, she kissed/fast peck my fore head (where the red/pink mark/stain was present). Can
She transmit the virus that way to me? What are the chances?
no. The skin of your forehead is too thick for virus to enterQuestion 3: Can you catch HSV from handshaking with people with sweaty hands? I washed my hands right away.
NoQuestion 4: Where can you not get the virus (to make things shorter)
Herpes is an infection of thin skin – mouth, genitals, anus, eye, perhaps nippleQuestion 5: I shared a skinny thin straw with a friend. She never had a outbreak in her life. Can I catch it that way? It wasn’t direct sip to sip.
nohave a handjob to a guy. He cummed on my back which leaked down to my anus/butt area and vagina. Can HSV2 get transmitted that way?
Very unlikely. Semen is not a great carrier of HSV 2.Terri
