Hi, I(27F) tested positive for HSV-2 in April of 2021. Recently met someone, hung out a handful of times and each time we would make out/French kiss for probably 10-20 minutes. Knowing things were moving to a more sexual place, I disclosed my HSV-2 status. This then prompted him to disclose he has gotten cold sores since he was 7(now 30) and it happens so infrequently he often “forgets” he has herpes. He’s not on meds.
Obviously I was a bit taken aback that he hadn’t disclosed his status and we had been kissing so heavily but I’ve also read having HSV-2 puts you at less of a risk of contracting HSV-1.
In short, I’m wondering what the chances are of me contracting HSV-1 from our encounters up through this point/the chances of contracting it if we continue to see each other? Is it even possible?
I’ve recently had a mild sore through and tingles on my lips but I can’t tell if it’s psychosomatic. I also take valtrex everyday and think that in and of itself would reduce the symptoms of an initial outbreak and that I may never actually develop a cold sore if I contracted this.
Not sure I’m really ready to sign up to risk future disclosures that explain I have both cold sores and genital sores so I’m just in the process of weighing the risks.
Bumping this in the hopes of getting a response.
^^
The odds of acquiring HSV 1 after having HSV 2 are something like one in 55,000. I would take it off my worry list if I were you.
Terri
