Hi Terri
I have HSV 2 diagnosed by culture around 5 years ago. I take suppressive valtrex for that.
I also believe I have HSV 1 as I remember having acdore as a kid but haven’t had one since.
I was wondering why people don’t disclose then bave HSV 1 and what the difference is? If so many have HSV 1 why aren’t people disclosing that?
Anyway, I have a pimple on the side of my mouth that I picked and kind of made a mess of. Would that increase the risk of me passing HSV 1 to my partners genitals? I gave him oral sex the other night. I haven’t had a Coldsaw since I was a kid. Is this something I should be worried about? I’m kind of freaked out.
Thanks Terri
If you have oral HSV 1 and your partner is uninfected with HSV 1, you could transmit virus from your mouth to his genitals by giving him oral sex, yes. Do you know if he is infected with HSV 1 or not? It’s hard to say whether the pimple on the side of your mouth is herpes or not.
I guess there is more fuss about HSV 2 as it is an STD. HSV 1 can just be oral or could be an STD mostly through oral sex. But of course both can be an STD, right?
Terri
I haven’t had a cold sore since I was a child.
This is definitely a pimple. I know because
It was just a spot under the skin and then I
Squeezed it and picked it and made a mess
Of it.
My question is whether or not having broken
Skin increases the liklihood of passing HSV 1 or whether
It doesn’t make a difference? Especially since I take valtrex for for the HSV 2 everyday.
Thanks
ooooh, I see, I misunderstood your question but the answer is still important in terms of asymptomatic transmission of your HSV 1 to your partner.
I do not think that having a pimple on your lip necessarily increases the risk that you would transmit your HSV 1 to your partner by giving them oral sex. That small risk is always there and I doubt this makes a difference.
