Hi Terry,
33 y/o male. So 4 months ago I had protected oral and vaginal sex with a woman at a massage parlor. Two days following this I had very frequent urination and a tingling/itchy feeling in urethra. I went and was tested 10 panel from quest. Everything negative but hsv-1 igg of 48.00. Then I was tested again 3 months later(really about 11.5 weeks)and same results.I have also had 2 urinalysis done and no wbc or anything in urine all came back clean. The symptoms lasted 2.5 to 3 weeks of just urination frequency and urge and a tingly itch. Subsided for maybe a week then have constantly waxed and waned for 4 months with not much more than a week in between and mostly just a constant irritation inside urethra. No lesions or bumps noticeable anywhere or pain while urinating and no discharge.
I assume that I wouldn’t have such a high hsv-1 igg six days after an exposure. I would assume this is a long standing infection that I didn’t know about? I guess my question is does this sound like herpetic urethritis or hsv-1 genitally at all. I have an appointment with a urologist in July but I just want to see what you think? Also at 11.5 weeks is my testing accurate enough to rule out hsv-2 as well which has always come back negative?
Terri(sorry spelt wrong the first time),
Also is there anything specific I should ask my urologist at the visit?
I think you had a very long standing infection and it was unrelated to the contact you had at the massage parlor.
Your symptoms do not sound like herpetic urethritis, no.
A negative IgG at 11 weeks out should be 92% reliable, compared to the gold standard western blot.
I think it is very unlikely that your symptoms are due to HSV 2.
Terri
