I received a positive hsv-2 result today of 1.33 and a positive supplemtanl with abnormal. I have never had any symptoms and am freaking out. I also was positive for hsv-1 with level of 32. Is there any chance this. Ould be a false positive for hsv-2?
Also the last partner tested negative as of January and we slept together in late January. Only other potential exposure was back in October but not really worried about that.
I now have 114 patients who test positive on the LabCorp IgG test as well as testing positive on their supplemental test but are negative by western blood. Do not believe this result for a moment until confirmatory testing with Western blot is done. It could definitely be a false positive.
Sometimes when people have a high HSV one index value like you do, there can be some cross-reactivity with HSV-2. It happens more often than we would like to admit with this test.
Please do not except this result. You can obtain your herpes western blot kit from the University of Washington and it will be sent to you. You can call them at 206-685-6066 they will send it to you. You can work with your own provider to obtain this test order or you can work with me. But you need the western blot to clarify.

I have already ordered it and have a call with you for Wednesday or Thursday. What percent would you say this is negative?
With your index value of 1.33, there is an 85% chance that this will be negative

I have received my western blot? Is there anyway to move the testing along sooner than our meeting next Wednesday?
So I had another test. Still positive hsv-1 and 1.41 hsv-2 but this time a negative supplemental. How should I process that?
I believe we’ve talked now?
Terri
I got tied up at work and missed the call but from everything I read a negative supplement test should mean I don’t have hav-2 according to my doctor.
That’s very likely true.
