I was diagnosed with HSV 2 via a blood test. Never had any visible symptoms and my OBGYN just decided to throw in that test (which is not recommended per CDC). Years later I’m still trying to understand HSV 2. One doctor said that a positive blood test just means I was exposed to HSV 2 in the past and don’t have HSV 2 unless I have visible outbreaks. Another doctor said that I do have HSV 2 but that transmission is low since I have no symptoms. Which doctor is correct? Do I need to have the western Blot test to confirm?
I do experience irritation in my upper anal area (not near my opening) although I have never engaged in anal sex. I have never felt bumps, blisters, etc. in that area and even had a doctor examine that area even through the doctor saw no visible symptoms. Typically I put witch hazel on it (which causes a little stinging) So I’m trying to understand if that’s HSV-2 or assymptomatic shedding. I had internal hemmroids in the last so once that was taken care of the irritation subsided some but again still have the upper anal irritation on a frequent basis (at least 2 times per week every week).
Depending upon the index value of your antibody test, this may or may not be a true positive. There are lots of false positives on this test. I recommend obtaining a confirmatory test since you’ve had no symptoms. The best is the western blot from the University of Washington. I can help you with that if you wish. ‘
If you have an accurate test, you are infected and can transmit the virus when you do and when you don’t have symptoms. It would be best for you to know whether you have this or not.

I have had a test years later and it came back positive still. I think the range was a little over 8. I would like to get the Western Blot though. Can you please help me get that?
I meant the index value not range.
If your index value is greater than 8, there is a high chance that this will confirm, but I have seen them not confirm, though not often. If you want the western blot, I would be happy to work with you to get that. Just follow the link on the home page of this website. to “get a western blot”
