Have you ever seen a false positive for HSV 2 with IGG of 8 or higher in a person who is negative for HSV 1?
I have, yes, but very rarely. I had someone with a 17 not confirm

Just read your article –
Performance of Commercial Enzyme-Linked Immunoassays for Diagnosis of Herpes Simplex Virus-1 and Herpes Simplex Virus-2 Infection in a Clinical Setting
My igg test was done out of curiosity I was asymptomatic and had never had herpes symptoms. I had one spot that looked suspicious it was scraped open and swabbed but negative PCR. Igg was 8.5 for hsv 2. HSV 1 was negative. Prior to diagnosis had not had sex for 5 months. After diagnosis I had what I thought were possibly herpes related symptoms vaginal tingling, itching but never a blister. When these same symptoms appeared I went to the gynecologist and was told I had a yeast infection. I do have a history of yeast infections that started as a teen, before I became sexually active.
Do you think there is any reason to do a Western Blot? The article mentions false positives over 3. I’m just not sure if that still holds true at my level of 8.5. The money is not a factor I just don’t want to give myself false hope.
Thanks for your time and help. This site has been such an informative source during this stressful time.
well, I think it is likely that you will confirm as positive but given the high false negatives I’ve seen, I see no reason not to do the test. If money is not a factor, you could just do it so you never have to wonder about your situation and have a clearer idea about how to move forward.
