Hello Terri,
I stupidly kissed a high risk women – south East Asian prostitute a couple of days ago. Intoxicated, approached for a massage. Went to her room. Tried to give me a hi. I refused and had a massage. We did kiss and I sucked her breasts. I mainly slept. She also got naked and wrapped her legs around me, although my boxer shorts were on the whole time. I do not recall touching her orifices. I have spoken to a couple of online doctors and all assure me I am ok. I have a childhood infection with hsv1 coldsores. I am not concerned about genital infection as this was never exposed. I have read many of your posts and scoured the internet. It seems that hsv 2 does not like the mouth and if it occurs it rarely occurs. Very rare for a sole infection of the mouth and hardly ever sheds or reoccurs. My question is, considering this is a high risk woman, could I be at any risk of oral hsv 2 infection? As I say, I do occasionally of oral hsv1 outbreak and I am feeling tingling now – but I have been a little stressed – which could cause an outbreak. I have read hsv2 sheds orally 0.06 percent. Simple internet search. Is this true? Have you ever seen hsv2 orally simply by kissing? Should I be worried at all? -

Also, I have read that hsv1 offers partial protection from some sources. You seem to refute this – I take your experience above all others – but one specialist herpes site – I can’t now find the link claims that having hsv1 in one area – namely cold sores – does provide protection to hsv2 in the same area. So would hsv1 on the lips protect here? I understand it would not (only mask symptoms at best) on the genitals. What are your views on this? Finally, have you ever seen hsv 2 orally from only kissing (especially if individual has prior hsv1 oral)? Is this nonsensical to be worried? Would never worry about a kiss in a past life, but am I zero risk?

What is my risk of contracting herpes? Herpes Transmission Risk II
This was the link about potential protection from different variants and the same location. Be interesting to know your thoughts.

First, HSV 2 is rarely oral. And when it is found orally, it is rarely shed from there.
I don’t know who this person is that posted what you posted, but I am not aware of any legitimate study that shows that having HSV 1 reduces the risk of getting HSV 2. None. It may be that if you have HSV 1 at one location, your risk of acquiring HSV 2 at that location is reduced due to local immune responses, but I don’t think we have enough good data to even say that – for sure.If I were you, I wouldn’t give this another moment’s worry.

Hi Terri. Appreciate your swift and professional response. I am not sure if I am entitled to follow up as I initially posted three times. Just to clarify, when you wrote ‘none’ was this referring to the amount of studies you read claiming a degree of protection or simply that in all your years of specializing in herpes, you have never seen a case of hsv2 being acquired by kissing? I would assume it to be virtually impossible when one considers the amount of French kissing one does during teenage early twenties years at nightclubs. I have to admit, I have never thought kissing posed any risk at all. Sex education class at school never states this. Kissing is safe. When new relationships start, it is advised both parties get tested before sex but not before kissing. So to conclude, you have never seen an oral hsv2 infection simply by kissing? Simply put, nonsensical? What kind of statistic are we talking? 1 in a billion? Thanks Terri. If I am allowed another follow up it will only be to say thanks and close the thread.
