Hi, I recently went to get checked because I had sex with a woman who I barely knew.. we used protection with oral and vaginal sex. I did suck her breast and touch her body. I’m scared because i recently started dating this woman and we both got tested months ago and we were both negative on everything, but my test results I just did came back with a HSV index of 1.25 when I was just at an index of <0.91 in March and I just did this test two weeks ago.. my question is am I absolutely positive or is this a negative result?? I am going crazy because the only person I don’t use protection with is the person I’m seeing now and she doesn’t have sex with anyone else and we have been on and off for about a year or so. I’m scared I’m going to lose her because of this previous encounter.. I got two more tests done and I haven’t received results yet from either but they weren’t supplementary tests just blood draw HSV tests. I’m going crazy I just need answers I am hoping I didn’t make the biggest mistake of my life .. I’ve only slept with 3 people in the past year and 2 out of 3 I made get tested before and they were clean. The woman I had sex with who I used a condom with said she got tested three months before and was clean.. I’m so stressed please help.

I have no symptoms and like I said recently tested negative for everything in march , I had protected and with someone about 2 weeks ago. I’m a male, 27, and I only have unprotected sex with one person since last April or May and since then have only had sex with two different ppl protected with oral and vaginal. My partner recently had Covid and a UTI and a yeast infection. I guess my questions are
Is this a false positive?
Should I get a supplemental test?
Should I be worried?
Help!

Also, I am negative for HSV 1 with a <0.91 index awaiting on my HSV 2 redraw results. Still no bumps or lesions or symptoms of any kind, I keep checking my genitals everyday to see if I see anything.

Hi Terry, I really need your help

Statistically, there is an 85% or better chance that this is a false positive IgG result for HSV 2.
You need a herpes western blot to clarify this low positive IgG result.Terri

How long should I wait to get the blot done? And how often is it that you can get HSV 2 even if I used a condom?
I should be getting my second results tomorrow I took them about a week apart from each other.

Also I was taking medication for a possible STI infection like gonorrhea and Chlamydia which I didn’t end up needing but I took all the antibiotics, would this have an influence on the result? I found it weird that there was a negative on HSV 1 but a very low positive on HSV 2

Also Terry,
My partner doesn’t have HSV but I’m not sure if the other but she assured me she was clean and we used a condom the whole time ? -

Condoms reduce transmission of HSV 2 by 65% so not perfect.
Antibiotics would not influence the test, no.
So this partner has actually been tested for HSV 2 or they believe that they don’t? Very different things.
The thing is, you are still very early for testing for HSV antibody. If this partner has actually been tested for HSV 2 and is known to be negative, then you need to wait 12 weeks from the last sexual contact before that to do the blot.
If the inhibition assay was done at least 12 weeks from any concerning encounter and is negative, there is good agreement between that result and a negative western blot

Let me be more clear, I tested negative in March then about 4 and a half weeks ago on 6/21 or 6/22 of this year I had protected sex with a woman I didn’t know well after we had sex I asked her if she had been tested and she said she got tested for STDs 3 months prior and came back clean I’m unsure if it was a full panel. I didn’t notice any sores or blisters on her mouth or breasts or vagina. I did suck her breasts and I have been good until recently. Idk if it’s tingling or just irritation from lotion or baby oil or my shower soap. I have no sores or blisters or bumps on my groin or penis. My results on the 19th were as follows
HSV 1: <0.91
HSV 2: 1.25I got tested again last Wednesday the 19th and again the 21st and am expecting tbh use results either today or tomorrow. My other partner tested negative for STDs including HSV I believe. So my infection possibility is really low as well as my current result. I’m wondering if this is a strong false positive or do you think this is a true positive result from what I’ve said? I’m going to test again a week before I do the western blot. I’m freaking out badly I haven’t been able to focus on anything else besides this.

Also, the doctor had me do a PCR today because she said the previous doctor didn’t order a confirmatory test so she said that’s what the PCR is. Is a PCR the same as the western Blot? She said she got my results but the clinic I had the test done at doesn’t show an index value unless I do it directly at lab corp so she said all it shows is that I was exposed but it doesn’t show I was infected “it” being the IGg test she said just shows exposure but not an infection.

One more thing Terry,
I’ve also been having tingling on and off for the last few days.. I feel like I may be positive idk I can’t settle my nerves on this.. I’d like to know what you think about everything I’ve said.

I forgot to add , the tingling is kinda felt at the head of my penis but there isn’t any pain or pain when I urinate and I haven’t noticed any discharge at all and a few days ago I had itching in my restocked region for about a day or two. I ready that tingling doesn’t last long if infected because it is usually followed by lesions or blisters which I don’t have on my penis or pubic area that I’ve noticed, I’m sorry for all the questions I’m just worried. The test results I got from labcorp I won’t be able to see until Monday I’m hoping to get the other results today, but the PCR result I won’t have til around Thursday or Friday. I’m nervous to see what my index is on this new IGg test today

Also, I can’t confirm the results of the other partner who told me she was clean because she was a CSW, but we used protection the whole time.

You have paid for 6 posts and have posted 12 times. Until you paid another $50, I’m afraid I won’t be answering these questions. Not fair to others.

Hi Terry, I did not realize I put so many replies I just paid $75more
I hope you can answer my previous questions for me and give me some clarity. Also a update I did a follow up IgG and the result was as follows
Previous results
HSV 1- <0.91
Hsv 2- 1.25Current result
Hsv1-<0.91
Hsv2- 1.17my girlfriend got tested last week and she tested negative on both today.. what does this mean? I’m still waiting to receive my PCR that should be coming this week. She tested negative while having symptoms of vaginal itching, burning, irritation and diarrhea. My only symptom has been slight tingling. We both have not experienced any break outs.

Your are testing positive in the very low positive range – with an 1.17, there is probably a 95% chance that this is a false positive. In addition, your test numbers are going down, not up. I would encourage you to ignore the tingling that you are experiencing as it relates to possible HSV 2.
PCR should only be done from swab tests, never from blood tests. Herpes is not in your blood, if you have it, it is in the nerve and the skin, not blood.
I understand that you are very anxious about this, but your testing is not suggesting a new infection here.

Hi Terry,
I’ve been having like a tingling for weeks as well as discomfort peeing and the opening of my urethra kinda looks inflamed idk.. I keep getting told my numbers are low and it’s a good sign that they are going down I just don’t know what it could be if this is possibly a false positive. I also mentioned that my ex girlfriend was having vaginal burning and itching for awhile but she recently tested negative but idk if she ended up testing too early? We both tested at different times.
When I had sex with the previous person I got tested around 3 weeks or 3 and a half weeks post sexual encounter and me and my ex didn’t have sex again til make a week and a half after I had sex with the previous person so she got tested 3 and a half weeks after me and her had sex and tested negative while I keep having an IGG number.. how is it possible she tested negative while I keep having a low positive?
Is there anything in this that is concerning? The tingling for weeks? The irritation of my penis hole like slight red ness , the discomfort peeing?
I haven’t noticed any break outs I’ve been checking everyday for blisters and sores. I don’t know what could be influencing these numbers or making me feel like this if it is t HSV since I just had a full panel done and the only thing that came up twice was a low positive for HSV 2 but like I said the second time my numbers were lower.

I think it is very likely that these IgG results represent false positives results. I don’t think I have any further comments that would be helpful for your situation. The western blot continues to be the best test to clear up issues like this.
