› Forums › Herpes Questions › Hsv-2 IgG 4.2, Supplement positive. False or Double test?
Hi Terri,
Thank you for starting this site. I recently did a panel for STD and came back negative on all but HSV-2. My IgG tested at 4.2 and a positive supplement test followed. My labs went through Labcorp and I’ve been seeing you mention Labcorp can show false positive but that a negative supplement is closely related to a negative Warren Blot Test. Mine came back positive. I’ve only had sex with one person this year and they came back clean. I’ve never had a break out either.
I’ve read they do the supplement test by weighing the antibodies but can be confused with other antibodies.
Should I go ahead and check with the Warren Blot test or was the supplement testing results a good test?
The supplemental test can certainly be a false positive – I now have 112 patients with this situation.
The western blot “weighs” the antibodies, sort of
If you want to be really certain about your status, I do recommend the western blot yes. it is considered the gold standard of herpes antibody testing.
Terri
