Hi,
I had unprotected oral and vaginal sex once with a new partner 8 days ago. After a day or 2 I woke up and noticed my throat was a little dry. This minor dryness/discomfort lasted 6 days until I saw her again. That night at dinner she admitted to me that she has had HSV-2 for 14 years. The next day it dawned on me to look at my throat and sure enough there looks to be Herpes soars in the back of my throat. I have attached a picture. I don’t have any soars yet in the front of my mouth, tongue, or lips. I went to a doctor and she said right away it looks like Herpes to her and it does match up with pictures online that I have looked at. I did have a PCR swab test done and should get results in 3 days. Can you confirm that this looks like HSV to you as well?

Well, it does look concerning, I’ll say that. So you were the giver of oral sex to her, is that correct, or was she the giver of oral sex to you? Or both? How long ago was this encounter?

Terri,
The encounter was 8 days ago. The picture was from last night. I gave and received oral sex.

Yup, well, good that you had a PCR swab done for herpes. If you were my patient, I would also recommend that you take an IgG type specific antibody test for HSV 2 as a baseline, to see where you were antibody-wise before this occurred. You can order this yourself online to save time from any number of services.

Terri,
Will do on the IGG test.
I do not have symptoms on my genitals yet. Is it more likely or less likely that I will see symptoms on my genitals in the next couple weeks because I have symptoms in my mouth?

First we don’t know for sure that this is herpes. It is possible that you will get genital symptoms yes. but I’m thinking that if you don’t have them within the next few days, you may not. Mostly people who have new infection get lesions within10 days, sometimes a little longer. I’m also a little surprised that you don’t have external oral symptoms. Did the doctor do any other testing from your throat besides herpes? It could also be bacterial.
