› Forums › Herpes Questions › HSV 2 Question? Diagnosis
I have always had HSV 1 from a young age. From what I can remember I always had cold sores. On 5/14/22 my HSV IGG we’re as follows.
HSV 1 34.40 HSV 2 8.01. On 2/9/23 my results were
HSV 1 30.30 HSV 2 7.01.
I have had visible mouth lesions on the lips and inside of the mouth. However, I have NEVER had any visible lesions on the genitals, surrounding area, or anus. My question is how can I distinguish whether the HSV 2 positive results are indefinitely genital and not oral HSV 2. Is there any chance of a false positive HSV 2 or are these numbers conclusive.
Thank you
I have seen false positives as high as 17 on the IgG test. If you’ve never had visible symptoms in the genital area, you should consider the western blot as this is a lifelong infection and you want to be certain that the diagnosis is correct.
