      Hello,

I’m in the unfortunate position of never having a positive WB test and have had two indeterminate results (I took the WB after getting a low positive IGG). My current gf has tested negative for HSV 1/2 but I’ve noticed that immediately after having sex I sometimes break out on my genitals. It looks like my fordyce spots are getting irritated. But since Ive never had a negative or positive WB everything that’s out of the normal is a herpes symptom in my head obviously. I’ll post a photo but some other information. These spots/marks appear almost immediately after sex and usually only occur if we have sex a few times in one night, however they have shown up just after one encounter. They vary how long they last. Sometimes they go away after a day and sometimes they hang out for a couple of weeks. They have only ever occurred after sex. They can be popped sometimes and when they heal they don’t seem to ulcerate or even scab over. They’re just red until dots until they go away. And they don’t really hurt. And also, there was a time I had been on daily Valdex use for 10 days to prevent any hsv 1 outbreaks while on vacation and still got this little outbreak. Your opinion?

Just by looking, these do not look like herpes lesions to me. And herpes would not show up immediately after sex, usually, it would take a little while to activate the virus to make a lesion. If the two western blots were at least 6 months after having sex with a negative person, you should believe that you don’t have HSV 2 (are we talking about HSV 2 here?) That is the recommendation of how to interpret indeterminate western blots from the University of Washington. Have you already participated in the study our clinic is doing of people who have indeterminate western blots? If not, and you would like to participate, contact Rene in our research department.

      Thanks.

Any idea what they could be?

Are there any statistics on how likely you are you have break outs if you’re on a daily suppressive?

How does Valtrex affect a WB result? I had taken it at times in between my tests. Never longer than for 10 days. Have always wondered if that had skewed my second indeterminate

      Thanks.

I don’t really know, perhaps a folliculitis? Suppression reduces the frequency of outbreaks by 70-90% but you have no baseline to compare to.
Valtrex, if taken well after possible infection (4 months or more) will not affect the western blot.
