I’ve been HSV2 positive for about 13 now but up until recently only had outbreaks for the first 2 years. Nothing after. Started seeing a girl who was HSV2 positive as well. After our first encounter I felt sick within a day and felt that familiar pain in my groin. And then in my face where I never was infected. Awesome! Started getting outbreaks of red patches on my penis and bumps in the corner of my mouth and around my lips. No blisters. My initial infection and following outbreak 13 years ago were blisters. After that it was more what I’m seeing now. Started taking 500mg valacyclovir daily because it is unrelenting. It’s basically every day even on the medicine. If the intensity ramps up I’ll take 1-2g to curb it.
I took an STD panel within 2 weeks and then at 3 months and both were only HSV2 positive. I was always under the assumption that you couldn’t catch this twice. What are the chances? And now it’s on my face too. This is an absolute nightmare. The frequency of prodromes and visual symptoms is driving me absolutely out of my mind. It’s like my first year all over again. My Dr. doesn’t really has no advice or real help for me other than anti-virals. Is there any real help I can get for this? Right now I feel like this will go on forever as it’s everyday I’m chasing the issue. It’s torture.
I think it is extremely unlikely that you acquired a new strain of HSV 2. And herpes would not be occurring daily for an extended period of time, especially while on meds.
I would say that you don’t know it is on your face – you’ve had no lesions there or blisters, correct? If you have lesions that are concerning to you, you should have them swab tested right away.
Something that goes on forever is NOT HSV.
Again, if you have a concerning lesion, have it swab tested.
