Hello Terri,
I last tested negative for HSV 2 in 2020 and 2021 but I didn’t retest in 2022 since being in a monogamous relationship throughout those past years. My partner last tested negative HSV in 2019 as well. Neither of us have had any signs or symptoms until last month where I developed a few bumps on my genitals (the shaft), I then was given a IGG blood test only as the sores were pretty dried out by the time I saw the doctor. My results came back positive for HSV 2 the index results are 5.89 H and my provider prescribed me some antiviral medications. I am very lost on what could have changed and I was wondering if I should get additional testing. I’ve seen things on silent carriers where antibodies are not seen on IGG testing which can be months or years, there so much information and just not sure what to think. Would love to hear your thoughts.
Correction my partner was tested for HSV in 2019 and 2020.
So have you and/or your partner had other partners since you were both last tested?
There are false positives at that level, but the bumps, in combination with the antibody test results, are concerning. It would probably be good for your partner to be tested now and see what the results are. If either of you has had another partner since you were last tested, it’s possible that one or the other of you acquired herpes at that encounter.
Terri
