      Hey Terri,
I am a 27 year old male, a little over 3 weeks ago I had unprotected oral and vaginal intercourse with a female. Initially I didn’t think much of it because she told me she had gotten checked recently and every thing came back ‘negative’. 16 days after, even though I had not experienced any symptoms, I decided just to be on the safe side I would order an online STD test done thru LabCorp. When I got the test results back every thing was negative except HSV 2 which came back 1.31. Since I got these results back I’ve been experiencing a lot of anxiety and possible symptoms, mainly the head of my penis seems to be extra sensitive/itch at times, and I have notice the tip of my urethra burns a little after urination, for some time (not during). I did have a biokit test done 3 weeks after exposure and it came back negative, and the Dr. told me I had ‘nothing to worry about’. What to you think?

It is way too early to get a reliable antibody test result. This could be a false positive, a new infection with a low index value that will progress to a higher one or an old infection with a simple low index value. It’s just too early to tell. I do not agree that you have nothing to worry about. That might be true, but it is simply too early to tell. The test is looking for antibody, and that can take a while to make. By 6 weeks from infection, 70% of people who are going to make antibody will have done so. The best result is at 16 weeks. But if you result stays in this low positive range, you are going to need a herpes western blot to clarify your situation. Your symptoms are pretty general and are not concerning to me, in terms of herpes.

      Terri
