I recently was diagnosed with ocular shingles with a differential diagnosis of possibly ocular HSV because of how my rash presented. Obviously I am distraught by this. The doctor did not swab my lesions and I wish that I had pushed for it.
My concern is that Ocular HSV recurs much more frequently than ocular shingles and I am terrified of losing my vision.
I got HSV 1/2 type specific iGg tested twice once at 8 weeks (Diasorin drs office) and the second at 12 weeks(Quest). Both negative. I am married 6 years, my husband also got an HSV test at Quest and tested negative. My VZV titer was >4000. So I feel the only way this is HSV is through autoinnoculation while I was pregnant (immunosuppressed bc of pregnancy) and also a false negative test. I have a 5 mo old son and was on vaginal progesterone suppositories nightly my entire pregnancy and also wore contacts. I’ve had a few bumps throughout the years in which either I thought was an ingrown hair or something I brought to my GYNs attention and they said it was nothing. I do have an old ex bf that told me he was positive for HSV2 but told me 5 years after dating me and swears he had an initial infection way after me. I’ve never had a cold sore.
At this point I am on a maintenance dose of valtrex 500mg. I do not want to quit taking the antiviral for fear of it coming back. Would the western blot be inaccurate if I’m on valtrex assuming this would be an old infection? Would my iGg tests be inaccurate? Should I get a Western blot for peace of mind? I am now 3 months out from my ocular infection.
Thank you
We’ve now had an evisit, right?
