Hello, I am a male.16 weeks ago I had a sexaul encounter with an unknown high risk partner. It was a single time exposure and it involved kssing and unportected oral sex and protected vaginal intercourse. The day after I had a white spot on the tip of my tongue (less than 24 hours) it hurt , started searching a lot about herpes and worrying. 3 days after burning sensations on lips started and I believe these to be real. And a single sore appeared towards the inside of my upper lip. It came and popped in matter of hours (1-2) maybe less I dont remember and left an ulcer with white skin. The sore didnt hurt and went away in 4-5 days but on friday 10th of october(encounter was on 4th) a small single bump near the corner of my lip(but on my lip not outiside lip) appeared I was licking and poking myself quite a bit the next day it left a small open red scar, I put some carmex on it and it went away the day after that. It took 2-3 days to appear and heal. No crusting. The first big sore had some liquid or maybe just infalmed but it came an popped so qucikly but burning mouth a lip sore and a secon one that came and went quickly confuses me. I have no history of cold sores that I can recall .It did look like inside mouth herpes as I am not sure if they were canker sores or coldsores or somethingelse. I get cheitilis and lip irriatitons quite often during winter but this wasnt winter. As a baseline Intested 5 days after exposure all tests for HSV1&2 (IgG and IgM) negative. Went to a urologist he looked at my genitals and took a urethral culture for other stds which hurt quite a bit. 2-3 weeks later I had internal penis tip pain that came and went not during urination it was a stinging shooting pain and on Nov 11th I had a cold and some muscle aches no sores blisters obvious symptoms. On week 11 and week 15 I tested negative with values of 0.1 for every test for herpes 1&2 type specific IgG ELISA. Because I had suspicious sores following the sex and still have some burning on one spot of my lip (might be due to licking biting) and that Hsv1 commercially tests arent extremely sensitive, I am worried, I have done some research and know that Western Blot is the golden standart for serology tests I would like to order one but the problem is I live overseas in Turkey. Is there any way I could get a western blot by sending my blood smaple through a medical company/hospital? Or somewhere else that does Western Blot/Immunoblot type tests. Ialso If get A nontype specific Igg test would it actually be more sensitive for negatives! I know I would risk getting a false positive but getting negative on combined IGG is better than seperate? My dermatologist suggested me it wasnt herpes that my results are conclusive but my symptoms confused me. Over 4 months I had two fever sicknesses never payed attention to my diet or exercise (depression) but still didnt get another cold sore. One more thing is it true that 10% of people who doesnt convert by Elisa tend to have more typical sever symptoms and would be diagnosed otherwise? If I have oral herpes is it probable taht I have it genitally too beucase the sma day ı recieved unprotected oral and have been having burning genital senations sometimes. Or perhaps autoinauclation. If I had a symptomstic oral infection wouldnt I also have symptomatic ghsv1? Thank you

Well, the first thing is to determine if indeed you have HSV 1 infection. You are correct that the western blot is the best test for HSV 1. You have waited long enough for the western blot to be accurate. You can order this test through our clinic, even if you live in Turkey. You should contact Roger Smith in our office; he will help you with this. I must warn you that it will be expensive because of all the shipping costs. Be prepared for that.

Just call the clinic and ask for Roger Smith and tell him I asked you to call him to arrange a western blot overseas. I will give him a heads up that you will be calling and you two can work all of that out. It will require someone who will agree to draw your blood in your home country and spin it down to send it away. Do you think you can arrange that?

I think I can ask my urologist at the hospital who previously sent me to lab for testing or my dermatologist to ask fo the lab to get my blood. Will they sen a package of somesory or Will I just ask my docotor to send the blood sample in a contained storage to WestoverH. I will hopefully discuss with Roger Smith the details and ask my doctor if they can help me. If everything is done from this day How long I think it will take for me to get my results?

I forgot to tell you that you need to have a brief phone consultation with a clinician at the clinic before we order the test, sorry about that. It usually take about 1-3 weeks to get results, once we get the blood.
