I know that with hsv-2 there is a question on the positive rate between 1.1 and 3.5….Is that the same for Hsv1 ? I got a pos test during routine screening and came back postive igg at 1.77. I have never had symptoms. In a kinda panic state i rested shortly after and it came back neg . @ 0.02 . What should my next steps be ?
The next step would be to do the herpes western blot. Is it correct that you have never in your lifetime had a cold sore on your lip or in your nose?

Never had a cold sore that i know of . Are the stats the same on the questions of false positive for hsv1 and 2 ? What is involved with the test ?
False positives are more likely for HSV 2 than HSV 1. The majority of people who test at a number greater than 3 for HSV 1 will confirm with the western blot. That is not necessarily true for HSV 2.
The western blot is done only at the University of Washington. You would need to call them to order a test kit at 206-685-6066 and then find a lab that can draw your blood (we often use anylabtestnow or ARC point labs), and then you need a provider to place the order for the test and then the sample needs to be shipped back to UW.
