i know genital to genital transmission of hsv1 is low. However I am recently positive by lesion swab. I broke out with symptoms 3 days after having sex with my boyfriend who had a sore he thought was from friction from masturbation. He has had a sore like this before but not often and not for a long time. It was mildly painful and itchy for him. I had no igg antibodies detectable when I had blood taken same day as my swab. I also broke out with 1 mild sore on my mouth at the same time as my genital sores. I did perform oral on him that same day we had sex. My boyfriends igg antibody test was negative when we got together, and his last sexual encounter before that test was over a month before blood was taken.
He had a series of small red bumps (had previously with a yeast infection) and one swollen sore with broke skin but dried, scabbed and healed within a few days. Not sure how long he has the sores before our encounter where we had unprotected PIV and oral sex.
1) how low is genital to genital transmission when a possible sore is present?
2) can I get infected by hsv1 orally and genitally at the same time?
3) typically how long before hsv1 antibodies are detected on an igg test? I did have some risky sex (we were broken up briefly) 1.5 months ago before my outbreak. My igg was neg when I had swab and blood test done 4 days ago. Would antibodies appear on my test at this point to rule out if it came from my boyfriend or my random hook up?(who had no history of cold sores)
4) how common is it for hsv igg antibodies to be completely undetected, and the chances that my boyfriend has had this the whole year of our relationship but only just transmitted to me when he had a sore?
5) if his igg antibodies were missed before, would it be worth it for him to get blood done again, or wait to see if he gets another sore to have it swabbed?

well, probably significantly higher is having intercourse with a sore present2) can I get infected by hsv1 orally and genitally at the same time?
Yes, you can.3) typically how long before hsv1 antibodies are detected on an igg test? I did have some risky sex (we were broken up briefly) 1.5 months ago before my outbreak. by 6 weeks from infection, 70% of people who are going to be positive on the HSV 2 antibody test will do so.4) how common is it for hsv igg antibodies to be completely undetected, and the chances that my boyfriend has had this the whole year of our relationship but only just transmitted to me when he had a sore?
The IgG test for HSV 1 misses 30% of HSV 1 infections.5) if his igg antibodies were missed before, would it be worth it for him to get blood done again, or wait to see if he gets another sore to have it swabbed?
He could do another test, but it could miss it again (or it could have missed it in you, also). And yes, if he gets another sore, be sure it gets swab tested.Terri

Thank you for your response. Another set of questions.
1) does ghsv1 usually have primary outbreak right after exposure?
2) is it common for to have primary ghsv1 outbreak 2 months after exposure? Or does it typically happen within a few days? I ask because my boyfriend thinks I got it from the man I slept with when we were broken up.
3) will lysine delay a primary outbreak? I was already taking lysine for other reasons when I slept with that man, about 1 month after that incident, I stopped taking it, then another month went by and I had my first out break. Is it possible I was exposed by the man I was with when my bf and I were broken up, and taking lysine delayed my primary out break?
4) given the information i posted, if you had to guess the source of my ghsv1 infection (I know not 100% correct) would you guess the man I slept with 2 months ago, or my boyfriend?

Yes, within 2-10 days. But not everyone has an outbreak right after they are infected2) is it common for to have primary ghsv1 outbreak 2 months after exposure? Something that happens months later is not a primary outbreak, it is a recurrence.3) will lysine delay a primary outbreak? Boyfriend. And that is a guess.Terri
