Hi Terri,
Ok so we have talked before when I thought I had hsv2 but I tested negative and everything was ok. I did however test positive for HSV1 and I have never had a cold sore. I’m worried because I was with a guy who got cold sores all of the time. We would have intercourse and he might have given me oral sex. This was years ago so I don’t remember if he did or not.
I’m just worried I could have it. If I had genital HSV1 would I have known by now 2 and 1/2 years later?

Yes. If you had contracted HSV 1, you would have had it 2 1/2 years ago. Are you asking if you would have had symptoms by now? Not necessarily. Have you been tested for HSV 1?

I was tested through igg testing about 2 years ago and tested positive for HSV1. I wanted to know if I had it genitally I would have known by now? I’m worried because Ive never had a coldsore on my lip at all. So I’m thinking I have it genitally but I have also have not had any symptoms down their either.
I don’t remember getting cold sores on my lips as a child but my two younger siblings have plenty of times.

OK, I understand. Without an outbreak either orally or genitally, there is just no way to know where your HSV 1 infection is in your body. I wish I had some magic answer for you about this, but I just don’t.

Can you please tell me if this looks like HSV 1 genitally or just a pimple of some kind? It doesn’t hurt put feels irritated when I touch it.
Also, since my sisters and parents all have hsv1 orally since we were little am I likely to have hsv1 orally?

Star, this doesn’t really look like herpes to me but pictures on the internet are difficult. An in person visit would be clearer for you.
When you say that you were diagnosed with HSV 1, was it by blood antibody test? What was the number associated with that test result? If it was less than 3.5, clarification with another test would be advised. If it was greater than 5 (>5), the confirmation is not needed. It’s not possible to say how likely it is for you to have oral HSV 1, based on your family history. Sorry about that.

I renewed my subscription. Yes I tested positive for Hsv1 through IGG blood test more than once.
I attempted to pop the bump and I heard a pop and a piece of solid puss with a hair came out them some clear liquid. I’m not 100% sure if the hard puss came from that exact area but that’s the area I was squeezing.
Does herpes from HSV1 present itself as a tender to touch hard bump? You saw how it looked already.

No, normally herpes is NOT a hard bump, it is a softer situation. I’m wondering about molluscum contagiosum. Has anyone suggested that that might be going on?

I have not been diagnosed with that. Does Molluscum contagiousum contain puss when you squeeze it? I ask because I have been getting a lot of cysts or boils around my inner thigh and top of my outer vagina i believe it’s called the mons pubic. I get at least one a month they fill up with puss or liquid. One of the bumps is still there under the skin. You can’t see it but you can feel it.

molluscum has a hard core of pus. If you already get boils and cysts, couldn’t it just be one of those?

Yes it could be. I’m just worried about genital hsv1. I guess I’ll never know until I have an actual outbreak orally or genitaly 🙁

I know you are worried Do you have PCR swabs at home that you could gather from bumps as they come up to sort out of they are HSV 1 or not?

I don’t get any bumps aside from the boils. Do boils and herpes look sort of alike or is there a big difference?

I would say that look similar but not alike. Only a clinician looking at the boils/bumps could really help you sort this out or a PCR swab.
You’ve used up all of your posts, Star.

I renewed my subscription. All the other boils I’ve had had puss come out of them or oily clear liquid. Do herpes have anything like this?
Also the bump I posted a pic about 3 days ago is completely gone. Could herpes go away that fast?

I seriously doubt that the one you posted was a herpes lesion. Yes, it can go away in three days if it is herpes but so can other things go away in three days. Herpes lesions generally have clear fluid in them, sometimes cloudy but I would hesitate to call it usual pus.

Thanks for clarifying. Do herpes present themselves as hard bumps or lumps? All of these bumps/boils have been hard balls or hard lumps that are under the skin and red a times.
I also wanted to know can ingrown hairs get inflamed at the same place all the time. I have an area of 3 hairs that sit on top of a stretch mark that get red when I shave. one or two of them get a small pustule but there is always a hair in the middle of each pustule. They don’t itch or hurt.

Normally, in my experience, herpes bumps are not very hard as they are normally fluid filled but what you might think is hard, I might not think is hard so that’s difficult to say. The hair bumps sound more like they might be folliculitis, and inflammation of the hair follicle.

Hi Terri,
I shaved my pubic area and developed a lump the next day. I wouldn’t call it a bump because it was not perfectly round and it was more under the skin. I couldn’t see anything there but I definitely felt it. I tried squeezing the area nothing happened. It seem to be going down by day 2 and was completely gone by day 3. Does this sound like it could be HSV 1 genitally or some kind of razor bump/cyst of some kind? I didn’t have time to go to the doctor so I could not get it looked at.

That does not sound like herpes to me, no. It sounds like irritation of the hair follicle.
