If someone has HSV 1 outbreak in anal area (female) and new partner (male) has HSV 2 outbreaks on genitals/penis, can these two partners potentially infect each other with their different strains during intercourse. And if this is a possibility, would female partner potentially get outbreaks on labia & continue with outbreaks in anal area and male have potential to have more frequent outbreaks?
In this case, the female is susceptible to acquiring HSV 2 from the male – once you have HSV 2, the odds of contracting HSV 1 subsequently are about 1 in 55,000 – highly unlikely. HSV 2 recurs more often genitally than HSV 1 so the female would almost certainly have more outbreaks if she acquired HSV 2 genitally. The anal and penile infections are both genital infection.
