Hi. So I went to get tested May 31st for both hsv1 & hsv2 because my partner was unfaithful.
His IGG for hsv1 was about 53.50 and was positive for hsv2 IGG 2.90
But I was positive for HSV1 IGG 1.93 and negative for hsv2 in May 31st
I went again in July 6th and retested and Was positive for hsv1 IGG 1.80 and hsv2 negative.
I talked to the lady in any lab test and she said how my number where low it means I had this since a kid and if it was a high igg it means new exposure.. but every where I read says if IGG levels are low it could be a false positive.. I never had any symptoms or sores so I’m not sure.. do you think it could be a false positive and just recommend and western blot ?
I don’t know who you spoke with, but she’s way mixed up! Low positive are present for one of three reasons: 1) a new infection 2) a false positive or 3) a longer standing infection with just a low number on the IgG test. If you are concerned about it being possibly a false positive, a western blot would give you an accurate result. Also, your partner may have a false positive IgG for HSV 2. It is in the low positive range and the CDC strongly suggests that anyone with an index value lower than 3 should get a confirmatory test done, like the blot

Thank you for responding ! But why do you think my IGG level went down from 1.93 to 1.80? Does that what a new infection do?
I don’t think it could be a old infection I’ve had 3 miscarriages and 3 kids in total and I’m pretty sure they tested for every STD, they would’ve told me. But I’m not so sure. I’ve never had a cold sore or any symptoms.
It is completely normal for IgG results to vary. That has no meaning. Most OB’s do not test for herpes during pregnancy but you could check your records to see.
