Hello!
I have a question about hsv1 transmission. I have hsv1 on my genitals that was transferred to me from a previous partner 4 years ago. I am with someone new now and I have just disclosed to him about my diagnosis. He did tell me that he gets cold sores which is typically caused by hsv1. If he has hsv1 on his mouth is he still at risk for catching hsv1 on his genitals from me if we dont use condoms? I have read that since his body has the hsv1 antibodies he shouldn’t be at risk but, I keep finding conflicting information. Can reinfection of hsv1 occur in the genitals if it already lives on the mouth? I haven’t been able to find a straight answer anywhere, although i think most data refers to hsv2 when genital herpes is discussed. Thank you so much!
His risk of getting HSV 1 from you is incredibly low. First, he has HSV 1 which means he is very unlikely to get it in a new location. Second, HSV 1 genitally, after being infected for four years, would be rarely shed – probably less then 4 days per year. I think you guys are all set
