Hey Terri,
I haven’t had a cold sore in 6 or 7 years and was wondering if it is possible to transmit HSV1 t someone else WITHOUT an outbreak other than heavy kissing. I worried about things like sharing food, drinks, joints utensils and occasional kissing. My boyfriend grabbed some ice from my coke in a glass and ate the ice and licked his fingers – I assume that’s fine. I am very careful not to do any of these when I have an outbreak but want to make sure its okay when I DO NOT have one (as I said none for 7 years). Thanks
Yes, it is possible to transmit HSV 1 even when you don’t have symptoms, as you seem to know with heavy kissing. But we don’t worry much at all about transmitting HSV through things like utensils and drinks. The situation with your boyfriend and the ice is not a risk. Do you know that you boyfriend tests negative for HSV 1?
Terri
