Hello, I have HSV1 genitally and was diagnosed over 10 years ago via a culture swab. I do not get frequent outbreaks and when I do they are minimal and non-bothersome. I am currently taking daily antivirals. My partner has HSV1 orally from childhood. What is the rate of transmission to him genitally, while taking anti virals and while not taking them, with/without condom use.
TRansmission to him genital is highly unlikely. And add the duration of your infection and the use of daily antiviral medicine – I really don’t see any meaningful risk at all here. In 35 years of practice, I have seen transmission happen in this situation once and had one confirmed casse with a telemedicine patient. Is it possible? yes. Is it likely? Absolutely not.

Is there a possibility that the culture swab was wrong in terms of HSV1 vs HSV2 diagnoses. Is it worth getting a blood test to confirm? My diagnoses was over 10 years ago and my test report clearly says type 1.
No, I think if the swab test says it was positive for HSV 1, I would believe that.
