Terri thanks for all your help with this forum. I have learned so much from the forum.
Over the years I have had several std tests and no one, I mean no one EVER tested for HSV. Never a suggestion, went back thru all my test results…NEVER. I was very open and honest about my sexuality.
Shame on me for not knowing to ask, but you would think a medical professional would suggest. So…
I am a bi sexual Male. Recently had a homosexual experience. We kissed quite a bit, provided oral and I received anal intercourse protected. Total interaction of all three lasted maybe 25 mins.
Sex is hit or miss for me. Prior to this it was about 14 to 18 months ago. At the time I had not had an hsv test. Just recently had a discussion concerning it after the above interaction. The person knew I had not been tested. Went the next week for testing. Still have not heard from the doctor about the results, however they have now shown on my portal.
Hsv1 positive 55
Hsv2 negative <.90
The other consenting adult said he recently tested negative per him. I have not seen results or which tests performed igg or igm. Nor will he share.
I cant remember the last time I had a sore on my face. It’s been years. However for to be conservative let’s say 5 years.
How often does the shedding occur? It seems like the longer between outbreaks, the less shedding/contagion correct?
Based on the facts above what are the chances I gave hsv to this guy? I know you cant give a definite, however based on your vast experience…a guestimate?
I will of course get tested as my life progresses and ask for the test each time from now on.
Literally I cant keep anything down because of nerves. I believe he might of gotten a false negative from his recent results.
He said he is getting tested again, however he has no symptoms. It’s only been about 9 days since the interaction. Not sure it will show up that quick.
Help so I can ease my tension and eat.

I just heard from the doctor. The doctor said this is no big deal. Quit stressing. Told me I was not contagious unless I had a sore. I told her I dont think that’s accurate. The doctor said…are you a doctor?
So confused and upset that the doctor is so casual about it.
Am I overreacting?

Will you also elaborate on Shedding. Can you tell if you are? Is it the actual act of peeling skin?

Shedding means giving off the virus from your body. it can happen both with and without symptoms. If you have ever had a cold sore on your face, you will always have HSV 1 infection. If you’ve had no sores for 5 years, then it is likely that you are shedding really infrequently. About half the population in the US has HSV 1 so it is very very common. Your partner may have tested negative for HSV 2 but it would be worth asking if he also tested for HSV 1.

When talking to him before we did anything he said he had tested negative for all. Hsv1 and hsv2. He was the one that informed me about herpes testing. He knew before anything happened I had not been tested.
I feel dumb and embarrassed about not knowing.
Unfortunately there has been no communication since the event occurred.
With so many people having HSV1 and people like myself not knowing to ask for that test, I am confident the percentage of infection is much higher.
With blood testing being wrong 30% of the time which I have read over and over again, there is really know way to know until a test comes back positive? And with the false testing results there is really no way to know from who or when it was contacted? As I have read in your posts the numbers really mean nothing other then positive or negative correct?
I feel like my sex life is over.

No, the number is not wrong. This was sampling done on a general population, not looking for herpes, and with a very good test. Look up NHANES HERPES TESTING.
With about half the population having HSV 1, I’m not clear why you think your sex life is over? You know that your infection is oral, which is more than a lot of people know when they get a positive HSV 1 antibody test.
I have HSV 1, my husband does, two of my three children do, one of my grandchildren does, it is just so common! I’m missing something about why your sex life is over.
