Hi Terri!
I have genital and oral HSV1 (I was infected in both locations during my first outbreak 6 years ago). My current partner has oral HSV1.
I didn’t think that I was developing an oral cold sore – I thought it was just acne as there was just redness and a slight bump, but no fluid filled blister at the time.
My questions are:
1. As we both have HSV1, is it possible that my cold sore would trigger an oral outbreak for them?
2. If I have an oral cold sore, does that mean I have a high viral load genitally as well?
3. Is it possible to give someone genital HSV1 if they already have oral HSV1?
Thanks Terri!
1. As we both have HSV1, is it possible that my cold sore would trigger an oral outbreak for them?
No, each of your immune systems will handle the virus in it’s own way
2. If I have an oral cold sore, does that mean I have a high viral load genitally as well?
Likely not, and I’m not sure what you mean by high viral load as it relates to HSV. Genital HSV 1 is far less active than oral HSV 1.
3. Is it possible to give someone genital HSV1 if they already have oral HSV1?
Extremely unlikely
Terri
