mid 40 female here. Received “exposure to both herpes type1 and 2.” The result for HSV1 IGG Type Specific AB was 1.75 and HSV2 IGG Type Specific AB was >5.00. Could you confirm this result is reliable and final since it’s IGG? But, I’ve never had a mouth cold sore but tingling sensation on my buttock wound which sometimes subsides by itself or one valacyclovir. Because of this, the result of HSV2 is believable but not HSV1. Since Herpes live in nerve, if I kiss someone right before, during, after outbreak, I can transmit both 1 or 2 to someone and the person can contract the virus anywhere even the area that didn’t touch and not just on the lips, but also on their genital, shoulder, face, leg, etc-because HSV lives under nerve system-is this correct? If I receive oral sex from someone with HSV1, can I contract HSV1 on my genitals? Also, would that person may get HSV2 from me by performing oral on me? In another word, if I perform oral sex on someone, will I potentially give both HSV1and2 to the person’s genitals even though I’ve never had an outbreak on my genital area and I only had them on my buttocks? (I’m talking about right before, during, and right after an outbreak)FYI, I’m a female. What is the chance of passing HSV1 or 2 to someone from a peck on the person’s lips? If chances are high, I imagine many of us won’t be able to kiss our babies on their lips… What is the chance of passing HSV1 or 2 to someone by bathing together in the tub (not shower but soaking in the same tub)? thank you so much for your help Terri!

There is no such thing as just being exposed when an antibody test is truly positive. That’s like saying a pregnancy test is positive because you were simply explosed to semen. Your HSV 2 result at
> 5 is a sound positive. Your HSV 1 index value could be a false positive but that’s unlikely. But if you want a western blot, it would tell you most accurately about your HSV 1 status and remove any question about your HSV 2 status. If you have oral HSV 1, you can transmit that virus to other by kissing and by giving oral sex. But you would not transmit HSV 2 to someone else by giving them oral sex. A peck on the lips when no lesion is present will not transmit the virus to others. Bathing together is not a method of transmission. The outbreaks on your buttocks are certainly HSV 2 and that virus can also be shed from the genitals. Let me know what other questions you may have.Terri
