Hi Terri,
I got the HSV1 and HSV2 IGG, Type Specific AB test done through Quest on 10/25/22. HSV1 was 49.10 and HSV2 was 2.06. I did the same test again on 6/26/23 and the HSV1 was 52.80 and HSV2 was 2.35. I have never had any symptoms, and doctor said that 2.06 was likely a false positive or being influenced by the extremely high HSV1 results. This has caused a great deal of anxiety for a while now and that is reason I got retested. I am likely going to get the Western Blot test to have some closure on this.
Wondering what the odds are that 2.35 could be a false positive? Assume it is a bad sign that it went up from 2.06 to 2.35 over the last 8 months?
Also curious whether having a lot of autoimmune conditions could be impacting this result? I have Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Myositis, and Vasculitis. Saw somewhere that autoimmune diseases can potentially cause the IGG test to associate these markers with HSV but not sure if this is wrong/optimistic thinking?
Thanks so much for your help!!
With you index value, there is probably about a 50-50 chance that this is a true positive.
We can’t be sure what causes false positives.
But you definitely need a confirmatory test and I recommend the western blot. You can work with your own provider or with me, both work. You should call UW for the kit – 206-685-6066 to get started.
