First of all – thank you for being a resource to so many people in need! You are truly special.
I have been with the same girl for almost 4 years. No infidelity whatsoever and I would guarantee the same on her end. Full disclosure I was definitely a single bachelor prior to dating her and probably put myself at risk. I admit I have been very bad at getting regular physicals and testing. So I haven’t in almost 6 years.
Girlfriend has gone every year, everything always negative besides HSV1, which is not the concern here.
She was traveling almost 6 weeks ago. I was alone, masturbated probably way too much. My penis also touched a dirty public toilet seat which freaked me out and I understand that never causes anything. SO for the first time in forever, I ran to a clinic to get bloodwork done.
Results of IGG test –
HSV 1 – 28.3
HSV2 – 7.38I then scheduled a doctors appointment and he told me that I’ve had HSV2 for years at this point and that my burning and irritation is not Genital Herpes, but it is Urethritis. I have been a wreck trying to figure this out and explaining it all to my girlfriend. He put me on two different antibiotics and I still have the pain. I do want to get another test but wanted this to calm down just in case it was causing any sort of false positive.
Curious to your thoughts here. Main Questions —
Have I had this for almost 4 years and never given it to her? I am seeing it in a lot of posts that this is possible, as well as the 4% transmission rate statistic.
Is this burning my first outbreak, lasting almost 5 weeks plus? I have never had any sores or anything, ever!
It does not really burn when I urinate, only after it is uncomfortable and feels “swollen.”
Look forward to your feedback, thank you!

The 4% transmission risk is female to male, not the other way around. Male to female, no condom, no antiviral meds, around 10% per year. But if you weren’t aware of this and not doing anything, you might want to confirm this number though it is higher as I would have expected possible transmission during that time frameIs this burning my first outbreak, lasting almost 5 weeks plus? No, I don’t think soIt does not really burn when I urinate, only after it is uncomfortable and feels “swollen.”
I doubt that has to do with herpes. If yours is a true positive and she is really negative, you should consider daily antiviral meds to reduce the risk of transmission to her.

Thanks for the response. I saw the urologist today. Does not think this burning is herpes. He said I may have had it this whole time and just not transmitting it. Or a potential false positive and I should retest to confirm.
Is that what you are saying as well?

Also adding to that – 7.38 IGG would signify if I did have it, it would be for a long period of time, correct? At least longer than a couple of weeks.

If this IgG is correct, then this suggests that you’ve had it longer than just a few weeks, correct, but we cannot know how long. I have seen false positives at this level and higher. If you’ve never had an outbreak, you may wish to consider a western blot for confirmation of your diagnosis.
