HISTORY
*I started having sex with a new partner and felt a UTI coming in, put on antibiotics.
*Felt very sick with body aches, especially on my lower back, which felt like a kidney infection. And fever that would come and go.
*A few days later, when I used the bathroom I felt a stinging when I wiped. I took a look around the bottom of my vulva and saw maybe a very small tear from sex, I assumed. I didn’t look like herpes sores, lesion or ulcer.
*NP agreed it didn’t look like herpes but swabbed and it came back positive. HSV2.
*The guy I was with denied knowing he has it and pretty much told me it wasn’t a big deal, while I had (continue to have) mental breakdowns over it.
*Was put on Valacyclovir. I did get another fever for one night maybe 4days after taking it, a white milky discharge appeared, and my lower back pain persisted. Kinda feel like I still have a UTI.
Questions
*Does this sound like an initial infection?
*Should I retest for any reason?
*My tear was very small and never spread or hurt in anyway. Would this be an indication that maybe my OBs will be minor?
*Does this sound like an initial infection?
It does, but the way to know for sure if something is new or a recurrence is to have antibody test done as well as the swab test when symptoms are new. If the antibody test is negative and the swab test positive, that means you have a new infection.

Maybe or maybe it is a recurrence. Very hard to say with certainty

*Do OBs tend to be in the same place?
*Should I wait to see how my body reacts without suppression?
*Is it possible to have a false positive swab?
About 50% of people experience outbreaks in the same location and for the rest, outbreaks can show up anywhere in the boxer shorts area.
it’s fine not to take suppression at this point UNLESS you are having sex with someone who is not infected, then transmission risks will be higher without suppression
False positive swab results have happened but very rarely
