› Forums › Herpes Questions › HSV2 Equivocal after Low Positive
Hey Terri,
This is my second post unfortunately, I just wanted your input again on my results. I am a 28M.
My timeline is:
6/28: Possible exposure, protected sex, no symptoms or prodrome.
7/24: HSV2 IgG low positive 1.21 (Labcorp)
7/26: HSV2 IgG inhibition reflex (Quest) was negative
9/5: HSV2 IgG equivocal 0.93 (Quest)
1. I read one of your statements before that this can be sometimes an expected variation that is non-significant. Should it be reassuring that the IgG did not not increase?
2. I read online recently about someone who had a similar testing experience with an equivocal result but then had an outbreak a few weeks after their last test which was swabbed and positive. Should IgG levels be rising over time if it were a true infection?
3. I will be testing again soon for another inhibition reflex from Quest. I believe I am one or two weeks too early for the WB. Would you still recommend the WB for my situation or should I not be too concerned?
Thank you again for your help Terri

Yes, you should

Someone can definitely have an equivocal result and be infected, especially if they test too soon after acquiring a new infection. You went from low positive to equivocal, which is the right direction to go.

I don’t think you should be too concerned, no.
Terri
