Hello I’m a female who has hsv2 I have had it for 3 years 2 weeks ago I started suppressive therapy taking 2 /400 mg of acyclovir twice a day, so tonight I had sex with my boyfriend for the first time he is not infected we used a latex condom, he even kept his boxers on because he felt that was better protection for the skin the condom does not cover, so after we had sex when I went to shower I noticed that the tip of the condom was stuck to the side of my vagina, and when I told him he freaked out he is now very very worried he has contracted the hsv2 virus, he told me he did not feel the condom break he thinks the tip of the condom broke when he was taking it off but he is very furious that he has contracted the virus, so my question is how at risk is for being exposed to the virous, and if he has how many days will it take for symptoms to show up? My other question is since I’m taking acyclovir even thought I only taken it for 2 weeks do you think that reduced his risk for catching the disese.? Thank you so much for taking time to answer my question.

Two weeks is enough for the medicine to be fully effective. If only the tip of the condom was left inside of you, I don’t see that as a huge risk by any means. You are doing all the appropriate things to reduce his risk of infection. But honestly, the tone of your note worries me quite a bit. He is FURIOUS that he might have gotten herpes? REALLY? He’s the one that decided to take the risk being fully informed. There is only so much you can do about transmission and you are doing it. If he doesn’t want to take the small risk of getting herpes from you, perhaps he should move on to someone else and leave you to find someone who respects and loves you in the way that you likely deserve and not get furious when something unplanned happens. He sounds like a bit of a baby to me, no offense.
Has he actually been tested to know that he doesn’t have HSV 2?

Thanks so much for answering my questions, yes he has been tested his IgG
Results came back 0.2 for hsv2. And no offense taken I felt the same way when I seen how he responded, knowing that I was honest with him from the start about my Condition and him choosing to go forward with the relationship he knows that their will always be a risk, so you right big baby.lol. ok so my question is can you tell me why if just the tip of the condom broke inside me why the risk is small? Also I wanted to know if valtrex more effective than acyclovir ?
I am currently taking 400mg 2x day of acyclovir do you think a higher dosage will be more effective?Thank you so much for taking time to answer my questions!!!!

well, his risk is small because it sounds like most of the penis was still covered
Valtrex is NOT more effective than acyclovir. both are equally effective when taken as directed (valacylovir is once a day and acyclovir is twice per day). I think your dose is perfect.
Hang in there, don’t let his responses make you feel like any less a valuable partner just because of this manageable medical condition, Ok?Terri
