I have HSV1 since I was 9 or 10. I’m 47F
I got tested for HSV2 and came back positive at 1.54 (quest diagnostic).
I did the confirmation test with quest and got HSV2 IGG, type specific AB 3.02 H and HSV 2 IGG inhibition, IA 3.61 ; %inhibition at 96.3 H.
I have no symptoms and I’ve never had an outbreak for genital herpes. I have an outbreak for HSV1 once a year.
I had unprotected sex, including oral sex (both of us) for approx 3 months from Aug- Oct of last year. He got tested and came back negative for HSV2 and inconclusive for HSV1.
I had protected sex (condom) (no oral) one time at Thanksgiving with a different partner. I had no sex since then.
Questions
1) should I do the WB test or are the results for the second test conclusive?
2) since the Aug-Oct partner tested negative for HSV2, did I get it from the Thanksgiving partner? Or is it possible I got it from him since we had oral sex and he tested inconclusive for HSV1?
Do the western blot. We’ve seen false positives on both the IgG test and the Inhibition assay. You could be infected but since this is a lifelong condition, wouldn’t you want to know with the highest degree of certainty?
