Hi Terri
Worried I have contracted HSV2 from one time oral sex (I am male received from female of unknown status)
The web is a pit of contradiction, can a man get HSV2 from receiving oral sex?
Have you or one of your close associates
ever factually seen or reliably heard of this happening?Does HSV2 cause the centre fold of skin near the anus to become red and inflamed?
Thanks Terri

I have never seen anyone get HSV 2 from receiving oral sex. I have certainly seen people get HSV 1 from receiving oral sex.
HSV infections could cause the anal area to be inflamed, yes. But so could fungal infections and bacterial infections.Terri

Thanks Terri
I has tingling in my penis about three weeks after the oral followed by a ulcer style split in the foreskin.
About a week later I noted a red mark around my anus, five weeks later my anus had pink shading, lumps n bumps, some red and some that today look clear
I also developed a couple of days ago a small whiteish spot on my shaft, its not open.
The oral was almost ten weeks ago and the symptoms seem to be getting worse.
I know I need to test, I did have a full STI checkup here in Scotland and it was all clear for Syph, HIV, Chlamydia and Ghonorea.
I have had two sets of antibiotics in that time which led me to think it was thrush.
If I did catch Herpes from the Oral would it be a fair guess to say its HSV1?
I did masturbate the woman before I received oral, could this have given me Herpes?
Unless this is an old infection and just a timing issue, I am deepy concerned I have contracted.
Would the fact that my anus is the main area likely indicate it to be HSV or is location of lesions irrelevant?
Would most of your professional colleagues have not seen HSV2 from Oral in their careers too?
Thanks Terri

Yes, if you did acquire HSV from receiving oral sex, it would almost certainly be HSV 1, not HSV 2.
Masturbating someone would not give you genital herpes.
As far as I know, none of my colleagues have ever seen someone get HSV 2 from receiving oral sex, no.
And your symptoms simply don’t sound herpetic to me. Herpes would not continue for 10 weeks and continue to get worse. You need to return to your doctor’s office for a recheck of your symptomsTerri

Thanks Terri.
The Anus marks are of my main concern, it almost changes daily.(all other STI’s neg)
I thought I could see water blisters last night and there are what appear to be small scabs / crusting around the anus but its hard to tell in a photo, and a pink colour down the centre line for some way, it looks isolated almost on one side but the anus marks look all around ‘the hole’ if a little darker on one side.
Would it be a fair assumption to exclude having contracted HSV2 from this event, but HSV1 is still possible?
Would you agree that the anal symptoms varying almost daily for around five weeks, with no pain just very marginal discomfort could be something such as Thrush, sound abnormal for Herpes? I do have A/D too but the steroid creams have mot really helped.
Final question, does the fact its worse around my anus mean that it is more likely HSV2? Or do symptoms just appear randomly in the boxer short area regardless of type 1 or 2? (I have never had anal sex and I am a hetrosexual male)
Thank you for your support Terri

HSV 1 is possible, and if you’ve not previously had a negative HSV 2 antibody test, a prior infection is also possible. And yes, I would agree that symptoms lasting 5 weeks are likely NOT related to herpes. The fact that your symptoms are around your anus means nothing

Thanks Terri.
I thought I’d shortlist the symptoms to get your opinion.
About a week or so after the oral sex, a small white spot appeared on my penis shaft, it was solid and had no fluid, I also had a bubble type spot appear on my sack, I popped this and it seeped blood primarily.
I had shaver the area a week before before so they could have been ingrowing hairs.
At about 21 days after the BJ I had a tingling in my penis head for a couple of days like electricity, I had been checking myself daily and eventually by around week 4 found an clear small ulcer on the foreskin, this was not painful has not scabbed and the split in the skin is still visible six weeks later, it will not heal but causes no pain or issue.
At around five weeks post BJ I found a red linear mark by my anus, i have been checking this for the five weeks since and have seen these linear marks, dark spots, what look like scabs or crusting come and go and change appearance daily, this has not affected bowel movements but the bit going in to my anus has looked from pink to red, again, it varies almost daily.
Finally, I have this white patch appear on the shaft this week so in the 10th week after oral, this is not painful
But I become aware, especially as the worry flares. It does not resemble an ulcer as yet.I know you cannot diagnose over the WWW, but do these details and timeline sound like primary and subsequent breakouts?
I am very worries and checking multiple times per day.
I have never tested for HSV, my Dr who ran the other tests said don’t bother testing as it will make no difference if you know, he had not examined me, just ran the tests at a private clinic here in Dundee.
Does this sound like Herpes and if not, any ideas from your experience what might be going on?
Thank you Terri for your kind assistance.

Oh and the original foreskin ulcer is on the retracted foreskin, not the top… its in a fold of the skin if that makes sense.

It just doesn’t sound like herpes to me, but if you really want to know, you should do some IgG testing for HSV 1.

1. Can herpes spots scab in a line say if there were 3 that scabbed, could one big scab cover all 3 to look like a linear scab, or do they tend yo scab individually?
2. Sorry for the detail but I carefully shaved my anus last night, I then applied a coat of Clotimazole Hydrocortisone accetate and this morning everything looked much calmer, even given the shaving. If a person had Herpes, could they expect shaving to be an issue and would there likely be pain?
3.10 weeks post exposure, would the IgG be the best test or a WB? (Not sure if we have them in GB..). Can I expect accurate results or should I wait a wee while longer?
4.Have you ever come across someone with similar symptoms to myself who had contracted herpes in the timeframe above?
5.What percentage of times would you say a new infection causes ‘typical’ clusters of blisters, rather than the random spot?
I recognise I am over-thinking and I am grateful for your answers, any additional context would be helpful.
Thanks Terri

Generally speaking, lesions make their own scab, not a big scab covering all lesions

If these were herpes lesions, hydrocortisone might have made it worse, not better. You are using a combination of steroid and antifungal cream, and it appears to have made things better

You don’t have them in Great Britain and the IgG test is best done 12 weeks post exposure
4.Have you ever come across someone with similar symptoms to myself who had contracted herpes in the timeframe above?
No, not that I know of

Thanks Terri.
It did seem to help and I think part of the redness I have is that I keep pulling my butt cheeks apart to get photos ot what is going on.
Ao without a WB as a potential confirmation, can the IgG test deliver me reliable results at 12 weeks?
Also, just confirming, would it be not the normal course for the timeline I have shared, part of which is the Anal symptoms lasting and appearing to nove around the anus for five weeks?
Do recurring outbreaks cross path, by this I mean can symptoms in one area, be joined by subsequent lesions in another at the same time during an outbreak?
Thanks Terri

Hi Terri
Final questions from me.
1. Can anal herpees create a rash in to and out of the anus, with varying sores that look like they scab over and changing colour and texture for almost six weeks? Ie – can there be one location where it keeps coming back over a given period without a break?
2. If a small ulcer appears on the shaft, whats the usual maximum time it would stay there for before changing? How might it change?
3. The initial ulcer under that then split in the fold of the foreskin is still present 7 weeks later, it is healing slowly. Have you ever seen this time period before?
4. How could atopic dermatitis effect the herpes recovery?
5. I spoke with a lady at a GUM clinic here in Scotland and she said that herpes does not last five weeks, she was very adamant about this, almost dismissive of it. is that a fair summary?
Thanks Terri

At 12 weeks out, the IgG test picks up 70% of HSV 1 infections and 92% of HSV 2 infections, compared to the western blot
Also, just confirming, would it be not the normal course for the timeline I have shared, part of which is the Anal symptoms lasting and appearing to nove around the anus for five weeks?
I don’t understand your question hereDo recurring outbreaks cross path, by this I mean can symptoms in one area, be joined by subsequent lesions in another at the same time during an outbreak?
yes1. Can anal herpees create a rash in to and out of the anus, with varying sores that look like they scab over and changing colour and texture for almost six weeks? Ie – can there be one location where it keeps coming back over a given period without a break?
This really would be a very unusual presentation for anal herpes
2. If a small ulcer appears on the shaft, whats the usual maximum time it would stay there for before changing? How might it change?
A small herpes ulcer on the shaft of the penis would normally heal within a week, max. It would normally scab and the scab would fall off
3. The initial ulcer under that then split in the fold of the foreskin is still present 7 weeks later, it is healing slowly. Have you ever seen this time period before?
No
4. How could atopic dermatitis effect the herpes recovery?
I don’t think the two would impact each other, though one could be confused with the other
5. I spoke with a lady at a GUM clinic here in Scotland and she said that herpes does not last five weeks, she was very adamant about this, almost dismissive of it. is that a fair summary?
I think it is yes

Thanks Terri.
This small very flat small ulcer looking mark has been here for a week and not scabbed, it is stinging a little now but I cannot see it changing. There appeared to be the smallest red mark on the area before the ulcer appeared, but I have been stretching and pulling my skin in all angles to take photos. When I say ulcer, it is marginally below the skin, almost skin colour and no outline.
You say one week is the max, this would indicate something else is going on here, have you ever come across similar symptoms that were not herpetic? If so, what did they turn out to be?
I used some steroid cream again on the pi nky red area around the anus and this calmed it down, the caneston cream has also done the same. What worries me is it does look quite isolated to one side until it gets to the skin to the hole, then its more spread out. Tue ridges that go to the hole look grey / whiteish although are more pink after the caneston cream. Does this sound at all Fungal, and could Fungal issues last five or more weeks?
i just don’t see it being HSV2 If it is from the oral exposure, but have not ruled out HSV1.
Finally, is it possible to have 3/4 OB’s in a short time frame with HSV1 if contracted genitaly from oral sex?? Rare it might be, but that could be what I am facing.
Thank you kindly for all of your assistance.
