Hi Terri,
I had unprotected sex with a women on 9/12. On 9/19 I noticed a very small red spot on my penis that I thought could be a pimple or other skin irritation. I happened to be near an ” any lab now” and I walked in an took a comprehensive STD panel that inlcued IGG for HSV 1 and HSV2.
I was negative for everything, but did show a 1.8 for HSV2.
Since then the small red bump has all but dissapeared. I called my doctor and he said without an outbreak inclsuive of leasions to not really worry. I have no other sympotoms, no pain, no fever, etc.
What are the chances it is a false postive?
At your index value, there is probably a 70% chance that this is a false positive (30% chance it is accurate.) per the CDC recommendations, you should have a good confirmatory test – the best is the western blot. I’m afraid I can’t make an assessment of how likely this is to confirm without a whole lot more knowledge about your sexual history, the percentage of time you use condoms, the total number of sexual partners you’ve had, etc.
Terri
