Hello I did a std screening about six months ago everything was negative beside my hsv1&2 index 8.0 and 2.9 I just got another test type 1 was 8.0 again and the other increased to 3.2. Does this means I am a true positive? I have not had an Ob well not to my knowledge. I get a cold sore on my lip once a month. My ex did not get test he refused he said he havent notice any blisters down there.

The cold sore on my lip shows one every year. Sorry! And I was with my bf for 3 years I don’t know if that makes a difference. Also what are my chances of being negative?

With an index value of 3.2, the chances are pretty good that you actually have HSV 2 infection. However, you are still in the low positive range (anything below 3.5) and your test should be confirmed with a herpes western blot. Your HSV 1 infection could be impacting the HSV 2 antibody test. You can get the test through our clinic if you wish or through the University of Washington, but you do need a western blot, for sure. There is a chance you have a false positive on the screening test. The change in value is not necessarily significant.

I talked to you and you of your nurses before I was told I was at 40% chance of being negative. Am I still at 40%? Or did it lower my chances since my index value went up. Is it possible for the hsv1 value to not flactute

Sorry submited answer before i was done. Is it normal for hsv1 value to not fluctuate ? I will be calling when I can afford wb I cannot afford it at the moment. Meanwhile going to not have sex at all. Have you seen a value increasing and being negative once its confirmed with wb test.?

Do i have to pay more so you can answer my last question?

The odds that it is a false positive are lower now with an index value of 3.2 – I don’t have the percentages here at home with me but I would guess there is about a 20% chance now that it is a false positive. It is normal for the numbers to vary and yes, I have seen index values increase and the western blot still be negative.

Thank you so much. I appreciate your help. I will be calling your
clinic when I’m ready to get wb. Thank you again -

Do I have one more question let me know if I need to pay again. If my ex happens to get tested and he is negative does my chances of being negative will increase or would I be at the same percentage still?

If your ex partner test negative for HSV-2 and he is the only partner that you have ever had in your lifetime, then yes that would improve your chances of having a negative result. But if you have had other partners in your lifetime, then your partners value will not be as important.
I do think that this was your last question on the subscription. As always if you have more please feel free to renew your subscription.

Terri,
Hello I just renewed my membership.
I was reading the updated hsv handbook it states that the first symptoms after being exposed is pain when you go pee. I recalled getting my first uti back in June of 2014 then i got another one in July and end of end august i had uti symptoms however uti & bladder infection came back negative at the same time they did full std screening everything was negative besides hsv 1&2 I also had a urea plasma I am not familiar with it my ob just told me its a bacteria she prescribed antibiotics for me and my ex. A little after that I notice something in my butt it was like a cut the size was not big it was like half of dime. I just started to remember all kinds of things I don’t know what happen after I got my results.
So my question is it true that when someone gets infected they get revurent utis? I still have the same symptoms I don’t have pain when i urinate I just urinate alot it feels like presurre with no pain. My Ob said that I might have Interstitial cystitis.
If I m positive which I think I am. Especially because my index increased instead of decreasing. If I get in a relationship and decide to get pregnant. What are the chances of the baby getting infected? I have talked to my Ob about this and she does not seem knowledge about the topic. She keeps saying I was exposed but not infected.
She did a culture she said she swabbed down there w/o OB. and came back negative. Is that test accurate or possible at all?
If I want to ask my ex about hsv test how would I do it? And from one encounter what are the chances of getting infected?
Last question can pasmears still be normal when someone is infected with hsv2?

I believe it says that could be one symptom, yes, that’s true. And sometimes herpes presents as recurrent UTI’s, yes. People can get lesions in the urethra and it hurts to pee and they may have white cells in their urine. What they DON’T have is the typical frequency and urgency with classic bladder infections. They also don’t grow anything in urine cultures.
A swab test of normal skin that is negative tells you nothing.
Pap smears are most often normal in people with HSV 2. HPV makes makes abnormal
If you want to ask your ex, I would just say that you tested positive for HSV 2 and while you are not blaming him, you thought he would like to know so he could be tested.
Acquiring herpes at a single encounter is quite unlikely.

Hello terri ,
I went to my in today to get a pap smear done she did it she said she did not see any lession. How ever i was just taking a shower and started to get very itchy by my anus it itches every now and then and there no pain. I have a picture it looks exactly like the one thing I had six months ago. Its looks like a cut I have been constipated the last couple of days. Does this look to you like herpes lession?

The one picture looks like a small hemorrhoid to me. The others are not herpes outbreaks, no, not in my opinion.

Hello
I believe I have one question left if not I will purchase more. This is off topic. Its in regards to HPV I have read that there is about 100types of it also that there is a vaccine. Can I get vaccinated when ever? I am not familiar with this disease but I guess is very common. Since Im at 80% chance of being positive for hsv2. I would not like to get another disease. I have not been exposed well not to my knowledge . How is HPV tested? All my paps up until last year pap smears were normal. I get them on yearly basis. I just had another one done still waiting on results I will get them in a couple if days. My questions is if I was with the same person for three years. Am I on a big risk of acquiring the virus? How bad is HPV? If someone has HPV can that person get pregnant with no issues whatsoever and w/o transmitting it to the baby?

Time a person has had five sexual partners that statistically they have at least one type of HPV. Yes there are well over 100 types of HPV but not all in fact the genital area. There are probably 40 to 60 types that in fact the genital area. Yes there is a vaccine to prevent the acquisition of HPV but it may be too late to be of benefit to you. It depends on the number of lifetime sexual partners that you have had. Let’s say that you’ve had five. Then you would likely be a good candidate for the HPV vaccination. But now let’s change the picture and say that you’ve had 25. Then you are likely not as good a candidate for the HPV vaccine anymore. Also insurance only pays for willing under the age of 26 to be vaccinated. Having said all of that if you are under the age of 26 I want to be vaccinated I see no reason not to. The newest vaccines offer protection for nine different types of HPV infection and the likelihood that you would have all nine is probably pretty low. So the vaccine may well offer you some protection against the acquisition of HPV. Most types of HPV are not serious health wise, but some types do cause cervical vulvar anal and mouth cancers. Those are the types that you would like to keep from getting. Please touch base with your healthcare provider to talk more about these options. Even though you have been with the same partner for three years, you may have acquired HPV in a prior relationship. Unless it is the type of HPV that causes external genital warts, you may not know that you have been infected. All women over the age of 30, When getting a Pap smear, should also have a test for the high risk HPV types. I don’t know your age so I don’t know if this is appropriate for you.
I just checked and you have definitely used up all of the questions on your subscription and then some. If you have more questions please feel free to renew your subscription.

Hello Terri,
I just renewed my membership. I have a few question. About 2 weeks ago I had a canker sore I spoke with a doctor using rele doc he told me what I had was an outbreak it was inside my mouth I will upload a pic. So my question is are the contagious?
My second question is: is it true that if I have had three positives iggs that confirms I’m hsv2 positive. Recap first igg 2.9 second 3.2 and third 3.1 hsv1 still at 8>. Again no outbreaks.
Only oral cold sore once a year.I am planning on doing a chemical peel can I ask my doctor to prescribe valtrex so I can avoid getting a cold sore. I took valtrex or something similar before I had wisdom teeth extraction two days later I had about 10-12 canker sore dentist told me it was a hsv1 out break and prescribed surpresive pills.
If I want to get wb. What would be the total including consultation?
What should I do I feel dirty and it feels like my life is over.
Last question when someone has an outbreak in uthera do you happen to know if it hurts while peeing and after. do symptoms show up everime time some one gets an outbreak like a recurrence or just at the begging when someone gets infected?

HSV 1 does not normally cause sores inside the mouth – I might disagree with your dentist or at least do a PCR to see if they are herpes or not.
Your odds of confirming as positive are relatively high, but if you want to do a western blot, which technically you should do because you have a low positive, the cost is $250, which include the phone consultation and the cost of the test itself.
If someone has an outbreak in the urethrea, yes, it can hurt when you pee. Symptoms show up with recurrences that are visible and sometimes you can have pain on urination even if you don’t have a lesion you can see because they are inside.I think you should confirm the HSV 2 status with a western blot. We can set that up for you pretty quickly.

Hello terri ,
I have a question in regards to hsv 1. The other day I woke up with something on lower lip it was not tingling nor swollen however it was very itchy and it hurt. It looked like a cold sore so I took 4 acyclovirs 400mg and used a cream like the ones you get at the drug stores. My question is can a cold sore go away in one day?. The thing I had on my lip went away in one day the next morning was gone it looked liked I had dry skin in that little area where lession was. I wanted to go get it swabbed but went away.
I have never had a cold that goes away in a day. Usually w/0o prescription it takes 5-8 days with prescription 3-5days. I get pimples around my lips here and there due to hormonal issues. It was hard for me to tell if it was just a pimple or a cold sore. started taking acyclovit right after I noticed the little bump i don’t know if that makes a difference? Or do you think acyclovir helped to heal cold sore in one day? -

If you know that you have cold sores, does it matter if this particular thing was a cold sore that you were able to abort? I’m confused about why this particular thing matters to you. Can you clarify?

Yes because I have been getting only 1 cold sore per year. I am affraid that i will start getting more outbreaks per year. Can you answer my question now is it possible to get a cold and to go away in one day?????
Thanks -

OK. Sometimes people have cold sores that abort, that is , they start and then they don’t turn into regular cold sores, yes. Usually that happens due to ingesting medication but it can also happen on it’s own. I will say that isnt’ common, however.
You have fourteen posts right now and have paid for 12. I know some of them are very short, but the program looks at posts, not how much content there is in each post, so I let this go for a bit but I think now we need to ask you to renew if you have more questions.
