Hi Terri,
I’m 37 yo female who had shingles outbreak back in 2019. In September 2022 I was tested for everything (I was negative for both Hsv1 and Hsv2, but I was positive trichinomonis).
But on January 12, 2023 I tested positive for hsv2 Ig at 1.29 (low positive) That same blood sample underwent a supplemental test, but it was negative.
I was prompted to buy a confirmatory test which I did. On January 16, 2023, I took a confirmatory igg inhibition IA test, but my results were delayed (10 days…I had to call Quest for a status update) ultimately, I received a positive inhibition interpretation of 89.9%, and an ig screening index of 1.39. The 1.39 still seems low but is the 89.9% low?
I have never had an outbreak.
Does my past shingles diagnosis impact my results?
Thank you for your help.

I just don’t have confidence in the inhibition assay from Quest – I’ve seen way too many positive inhibition assays that are negative on the western blot.
I’m thinking the supplemental test was done at labCorp, yes? There is quite good agreement between negative supplemental tests from LabCorp and negative western blots on subsequent testing.
Where was the shingles outbreak on your body?
I think you need the western blot for clarity on thisTerri

Thank you, Terri. The shingles was on my right breast and back in 2019 . I took the Labcorp full std panel again on Friday March 3,2023 and hsv 2 came back again positive 1.39 (Igg) index but the supplemental test again was negative. I don’t know what to think.. I purchased the western blot test and it arrived about a month ago can you assist me in this process ?

So the shingles have nothing to do with what we’re talking about. You continue to have low positive values but the supplemental negative is very good news indeed. I have seen good agreement between people who get negative supplemental tests and subsequently get a negative western blot test. I’d be happy to help you with the western blot if that’s what you decide to do. You can make an appointment to meet with me on this website. Just follow the link to get a western blot.
