Hello…I’m a female who was diagnosed with hsv2 three years ago. So I am dating this new guy and we were kissing and making out we both had our underwear on. He ended up giving me oral sex and I’m so scared that he’s going to get hsv2 orally, he also dry humped Me we both still had our underwear on but then he pulled my underwear to the side and actually penitrated me through his underwear..I felt him go inside of me through his underwear and I’m really scared that he’s going to get HSV2. He is not infected with the virus. So my question is how at risk is he for catching hsv2 orally from the oral sex he performed on me? And my other question is ..can hsv2 be transmitted through his boxers. The boxers was fully covering his penis when he put it inside of me.. he also fingered me, now if he touches me from fingering then touches his penis how at risk is he for spreading HSV2 virus to himself, I’m really nervous and scared that he will get infected from this ..so any information you can give me on this I really appreciate!!! Thank you!

I would have no concerns about him getting HSV 2 through his boxer shorts – none. I’m also not concerned about him fingering you and passing the virus to himself. And him giving you oral sex is also low risk, though not zero.
How do you know that he doesn’t have HSV 2, has he been tested for that? And how were you diagnosed with HSV 2, specifically?Terri

Hello and thank you for answering my questions, I really appreciate it…. I was diagnosed with hav2 from a swab and it ccame back positive for hsv2. The guy I’m seeing I don’t think he has been tested for hsv2, he just told me he does not have it and I know the only way to know for sure is to be tested.. you said oral sex is low risk can you explain to me why it’s considered low risk? And I have a few other questions I would like to ask ..if the virus is transmitted by skin to skincontact if he wore his boxers and a condom while having sex does the boxers prevent the virus from transmitting to the body parts the condom does not cover?…if his penis touched my vagina with no friction how at risk is he at catching hsv2… I’m currently taking generic valtrex is the generic brand effective with viral shedding.. and how long do you have to take it before it becomes effective. How long should you wait before you have sex when taking suppressive theraphy? I also read some where that woman are more likely to get infected by me then vice versa… can you please ecpain to me why?….I really appreciate you taking time to answer my question …and if there is any other way to prevent transmission can you please tell me….thank you so much for your time.

HSV 2 does not like the oral area and doesn’t establish infection there nearly as often as HSV 2 and we do see lots of oral sex but little HSV 2 oral infection.
Yes, the underwear is protective
You should take it for five days before it is maximally effective.
Women are almost twice as likely to be infected as men because they are receptive with intercourse and the vagina completely surrounds the penis vs the opposite thus exposing more tissue to infection.
Condoms, disclosure of your condition, awareness of symptoms and daily medicine all reduce the risk of transmission.Terri
