Terri, you’ve been so helpful, thank you. To quickly review my history, I have had hsv2 genitally for 25 years, in monogamous 23 year marriage. My husband has never tested for HSV, for his own reasons; mainly doesn’t want to know, and since he’s never shown symptoms, he doesn’t care to know. That said, if he does have hsv2 and is just asymptomatic, should I be concerned with getting HSV2 orally from him via oral sex ? My concern is getting and transmitting hsv2 orally to my child.
Thank YOU !
No, I would not be concerned about that. Once a person has herpes in one location on their body, it is extremely unusual for them to get it in a new location. The immune response keeps that from happening. If it is not, then we would see lots of little kids who originally just had cold sores also having genital infection from touching a cold sore then touching their genitals and we do NOT see that. Kids touch everywhere with great abandon.
I believe you can take this one off your worry list.
Terri
