Hello how are you? Female and I am needing some help with a few questions. I have been hav2 positive for a while now I recently had blood work done just for a for sure diagnosis as I have been very uneducated about everything. My results came back as hsv2 positive but hsv1 negative. Me and my obgyn discussed results and I asked her bring that I am negative for hsv1 does that mean I am in the clear for oral infection. She mentioned that it use to be that way but now they see hsv2 as oral or genital. With that being said I have never had an outbreak orally I have seen pimples on the edges of the lip and freaked out but I have seen oral outbreaks in other people and what I experienced was not similar. I take valcyclovir daily. I am trying to move into a new relationship and I just want to be able to lay everything out on the table as honest as I possibly can. So I am wondering since i am negative for hsv1 am I contagious orally or can I Infect partners with hsv2 orally and genitally? Also how likely am I to pass it to a partner taking medications daily and using protection? Thank you
While HSV 2 is possible orally, it is very very rare and the CDC says if someone tests positive for HSV 2, they should assume it is genital.
What was the index for your positive HSV 2 test results? There are many false positives on this test – did you also have sores genitally?
Terri
