Good Evening,
I wanted to know your opinion on my recent HSV1 and HSV2 results. I got tested in June 2021 and my results for HSV1 came back positive with a index level of 2.04 and my HSV2 index level was negative. Now, I recently got tested for both HSV1 and HSV2 and the HSV1 index level came back NEGATIVE (<.09)and the HSV2 index level came back positive at 1.52. I have had a sexual encounter sense February (neither oral, anal, or vaginal). Why did my HSV1 diagnosis switch from positive one year and negative in another? and is it possible that my HSV2 index level at 1.52 could be a false positive (because its below a 3.00 index value)? Both herpes test were Igg type specific tests.
I also have not had anal, oral, or vaginal sex since the February encounter; however, the last encounter was risky because no protection was used.
Based on the results that you’ve obtained with IgG test, I would say there is no way to know if you are infected with either HSV 1 or HSV 2. The HSV 2 is a low positive and very possible to be a false positive. The HSV 1 result is all over the place and I just can’t tell.
The IgG tests are deeply flawed and thus are confusing and often inaccurate. We so need a better test. And if you want to know where you personally stand, you need the herpes western blot from the University of Washington
