Hey Terri, I hope you are well, Terri I have the following questions and I am hoping you can help me:
1. What proteins of the HSV2 antibodies does the IgG test look for? What proteins of the HSV2 antibodies does the western blot look for?
2. Why does the western blot test indeterminate during seroconversion?
3. It is possible that the IgG test is positive (with numbers under 3) and the WB is indeterminate because the levels of antibodies are too low or the person is during seroconversion.
3. Is it possible that a person is during seroconversion for more than 3 months?
Thank you
1. What proteins of the HSV2 antibodies does the IgG test look for? What proteins of the HSV2 antibodies does the western blot look for?
The western blot looks for all 16 antibody proteins, while the IgG test looks for a single one (I don’t know specifically which one) but it is one that comes up early in seroconversion
2. Why does the western blot test indeterminate during seroconversion?
Because there are not the four proteins present that are required to be called positive on the blot.
3. It is possible that the IgG test is positive (with numbers under 3) and the WB is indeterminate because the levels of antibodies are too low or the person is during seroconversion.
That is possible, yes
3. Is it possible that a person is during seroconversion for more than 3 months?
Very unlikely, but that’s why when a indeterminate is obtained on the blot, a second one is requested 3 months later.
Terri
