Hello!
I was diagnosed positive for hsv2 in 2019 on igg at either a .94 or a 1.94 (I don’t recall and don’t have the record anymore), but I definitely know it was one of those. This was roughly a month after my assumed exposure (with someone whose status is unknown to me).In the 3 years that I believe I’ve had hsv2, I have had 3 situations where I’ve had bumps on my penis. They are never a “cluster”, never “scab over”, and valtrex seems to do very little in speeding up the healing process.
My most recent episode was 5 days ago. I noticed 5 bumps that looked like pimples below the head of my penis on the underside. I immediately started valtrex 500mg 2x daily. I saw my doctor on Monday and I showed him what I’m talking about. He said it didn’t appear to be herpes, and actually gave me antibiotics. He recommended I continue taking the valtrex, alongside the antibiotics so it could heal regardless. I’ve seen a small improvement over the last 48 hours with both, but am still confused and anxious. What appears now is reddish/dark pink spots that are slightly raised. All independent of one another.
I don’t know what to do. Should I assume this is contagious at this point?
Is there any degree of sexual contact that is “safe”? I know that may sound silly, but I’d like to know for the benefit of myself and my partner.Should I take a Western Blot?
Again, I’ve been on Valtrex for 5 days now, antibiotics for 2 days (doc said he believed it to be irritated skin that he didn’t want to get infected, if it wasn’t already).
I get screened for STD’s every 3 months to continue with descovy minimizing risk of hiv transmission (I am hiv negative, gay male).Sorry this is so lengthy. My partner knows about my positive test results from 2019. I am a believer in disclosing, even though I am not totally confident that that is what I have.
Im having a ton of anxiety and wanted to ask a professional. Your advice and input is hugely appreciated!

0.94 is equivocal, not positive, and 1.94 is a low positive and needs western blot confirmation – there is probably an 80% chance that the HSV 2 is a false positive. Get the blot. You need to know what is going on here. You can work with me or your own doc to get this. You can call UW to get the kit you need at 206-685-6066 but this is not a test your can order yourself – you can order the kit.
