Hi Terri- Last week, my boyfriend’s ex informed him she tested positive for HSV2 after getting bloodwork done for a surgery. He and I have been having unprotected sex multiple times a week for about 5 months. His last encounter with her was about 3 months prior. I was tested last week (through Quest) and it came back negative. He just received his results from STDcheck.com (through Labcorp) and was positive with a 3.45 index value. My question is, should he go ahead and do the Western Blot? Or is it worth doing any other test first? I was really surprised by his results, given mine, especially after reading how much more likely transmission is from make to female than vice versa.
He still has a relatively low index value and could benefit of obtaining a western blot. Unfortunately, LabCorp no longer is running the supplemental test which would be helpful possibly in the situation. These antibody tests are so unreliable, I don’t even know if his ex partner really has HSV two or not. It might be worth asking what her index value is to see if she needs a confirmatory test or has a high enough value that she doesn’t need that.
Terri
